New hood

Hey all, I had a bit of a screw up in my RA, and need a new hood on the car. I had 2 body shops tell me it is unrepairable because it is aluminum (just damn hard to work with), and the dealer says the price of the part is $1500 from mitsu, unpainted.

I'm considering going aftermarket, possibly carbon fibre, just to save money (seems these are under $1000). Anyone know of places, or have recommended places to check out to acquire such a part?

Thanks for your help, I'm new to modding cars, so I have no idea where to find this stuff other than eBay.

I wouldnt go aftermarket. Those OEM hoods are damn nice, and when it comes to trade it in or sell it the aftermarket hood doesnt have the same look as stock.

Damn that sucks, hope you can find a hood. Indeed the OEM ones are sought after lol..

Why don't you just buy the red one and paint it Lancer905?

Ive been working on my bikes for years (2 wheels is my passion), so mechanical things are easy for me to do. Plus, I wanted an X on a budget I have never done body work, and had no plans to change the exterior aesthetic of the car, except for tints and rims. SO, I guess I meant I haven't been in the "show no go" type of modding :-)

I keep hearing that aftermarket/CF hoods never fit quite right, and that kindof disappoints me. I would love to get an OE hood and just make it match, but the cost just goes higher that way.

Here are some pics. It doesn't look too bad now, as I already fixed up the bumper hangers, and fused the headlight tabs back on. Basically, what happened, is I rear-ended a Grand Vitara at low speed (entirely my fault). The spare tire mounted on the back of that car is at just the right height to press down the nose of the car, and hook onto the hood. In the maybe 2-3" of movement, it pushed back on the lip of the hood (see bend), and backwards, toward the right of my car. The right henge mound on the hood bent inwards. This caused the 2 sheets of aluminum to separate, and lift (hence the big gap). There is some minor deformation on the other side, though I think it is an illusion as a byproduct of the major damage. I plan to try and get this back into shape myself, but I have been told its akin to trying to straighten out a crushed popcan.

edit: in the last picture, that is NOT light coming through a crack, that is just reflection on the bare aluminum, which has been pulled from under the fold on the lip of the hood by the hinge.

after seeing those pics I doubt thats fixable.. you'd almost have to get that back in the original mold and have it re stamped back into shape... if it were just a dent or minor bend I'm sure a good aluminum guy could pull it but that looks pretty done in.
