Fuel Problem

Yesterday was just a great day for me and my car haha heres another problem I had:

I went to get gas and at the gas station I was at I was pumping gas and the pump didnt have a shut off point so some fuel spilt over and so I wiped it off and thought nothing of it but then once I got back on the road about 2 mins down the road my check engine light came on and an asc service required light came on too and as I was driving down the road I pulled off into a tim hortons parking lot and as I did my car was reving at over 3500 rpms and I was only doing 20km/h in the parking lot. So I turned off my car and got out and took 15 mins to look under the hood and turned the car back on and the asc service light was gone but my check engine light was still on so I turned my car back off and back on and then the check engine light was gone but I was Sh$!&ing my pants the whole way home. Has anybody ever had this problem or does the lancer have a feature to burn off the excess fuel if its too full or something?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Yeah... get the codes read before panicking. And no... the car doesn't have a feature to burn off extra gas if the tank is overfilled.

(i could be wrong, don't quote me on this)
The check engine light came on because you overfilled it. It was pouring into the charcoal canister.
Charcoal canister is a emission device. It stores fuel vapors and later they are sent to the engine to be burned.

Also, it could be just the sensor you threw off. Newer cars have sensors that can tell when the gas tank has been overfilled, and they can trigger the check-engine light.

If you want to be safe, bring it to the dealer. If the check engine went off, you shouldn't have to worry too much.

^+1 . Possibly some water getting in the fuel etc? Maybe with all this rain? You should be fine.
