Trading in for new Evo

What are your thoughts on this?

I currently own a 2010 GG Evo X GSR. It has approx. 42,000 km's on it (mainly highway since I travel between London & Toronto a lot!). I purchased it in July 2010.

No major issues, a few small paint chips from stones but that's about it. All proper maintenance has been done.

I was wondering if it would be worth it to trade in for a new Evo X before I kill the 60,000km warranty? Would I get enough out of mine to make it worth it?

I absolutely love the Evo so I would def go for a new one. Are there any issues with the 2011?

Not sure if I am crazy or not so this is a sanity check!

Thanks!

I'm tempted to say you'd probably get more for it in a private sail then using that money to buy the 2011. Dealerships tend to offer you crap.

Why do you want a 2011? For warranty?

I'm going to say it's not worth it to trade it in
the depreciation on the car after 1 yr and then using it to buy a new evo all over again, you'd lose more money than whatever the warranty would cover

Alrighties! Like I say, it was just a sanity check...

I was thinking for several reasons, one being for the warranty, one being for replacement of brake pads, etc in the future (not right away but they will eventually need to be replaced) and just general maintenance will increase as time goes on.

I currently do not drive as much as I have in the past year, so the km's aren't adding up as fast as they did earlier in the year.

I'm going to agree with what was posted above in saying it doesn't really make sense to trade in a couple year old EVO for a brand new one... unless you are getting some crazy deal that makes it work out in your favour. The depreciation hit you'd take on both cars would be HUGE since most cars depreciate drastically in the first couple years.

So unless you have some special amazing deal... don't do it.

And come on... getting a new car because your current car needs new brakes??? really???

I give you 20 Grand for your X RIGHT NOW CASH, and you can go buy a new one! PLUS I`ll hook you up with a sick deal on one lol....

In all honesty...Keep your car.

You bought a 50Grand car man...You really gonna skimp out on services? You knew the costs, You knew it had brembo`s, Turbo, AWD....

you gotta Pay to Play...

Otherwise

Dealer will not give you a good value for your trade in (especially if you have Mod`s, They dont care about that stuff and will devalue the car)

Go sell it Privately to someone.

And unless you wanted a special package that came in the car like the SSS package in the states I kinda understand.

can't you get extended warranty for much cheaper, or would that not cover everything you want it to?

Dont bother with a Canadian EVO, buy one from the USA new for like 29,000, hell drive it across the border yourself. the money you will save will be stunning. Even if you get it used, you will save so much that you can buy a new engine or transmission should something go wrong.

Nice comment from a "community" member...No, I am not a troll. Yes, I own an Evo.

It was a simple question. I have had a few older folk make comments like "time to trade in for a new one" so I wanted to see what other peoples thoughts/opinions are. Everyone has a different one.

I know there are going to be more costs as time goes on. Two options: spend the money on a car thats going to be a couple years old with lots of km's, or spend the money on a new one with very low km's...either option is going to involve spending more money. I don't know how to do all the work & maintenance myself on the car, I don't have a garage to work on it so there are trade off's.

Car is bone stock, just has tinted windows.

Its not just the brakes, I am speaking for general maintenance for a car that is aging and will continue to age.

Probably time to trade 'er in for a nice lease on a 335i or M3. Every 3 years you get a new one. Depreciation will be similar in cost

Nah, based on the amount of km's I put on it per year, it would end up costing more for a lease!

Based on the constructive posts above, it seems I would be crazy to trade it in for a new one - which is all I wanted to hear.

I love her to death, just wanted some other people's opinions on the matter.

Thanks.

If you are concerned for warranty, why don't you get an extended warranty for the car? Your car is less than 2 years old and just has some kilometres...
