Turbotrix reflash case study

TurboTrix Reflash Subject study #1:

The subject being a used 2003 evo8 purchased recently, in good working order.
Modified with parts totally selected by the owner who had been modding Mitsubishis for yrs. He had enough independence of thought to mix and match his parts to achieve his goals. Here’s the story.

The car was modded with several parts from different manufacturers, Logic exhaust, Nisei Intercooler, Helix intake pipe etc, different parts that the owner liked and which matched his budget, no parts choices were rammed down his throat, we had to work with what he had, and what he had purchased.

The first check after strapping the car down was to see if the car had previously been flashed, it had been by some other tuner. It was run up to speed on the dyno and registered 336hp and 337 ft lb. Pretty good, for the first pull at 23psi boost, but the tune was deemed unsafe and unsatisfactory based on the fact that the ecu was seeing knock and pulling timing, as the mixture was somewhat on the lean side, 12.5:1 isn’t what we would call a safe af ratio for a car being used for repeated highway pulls.

Mark installed the first of his flashes and the car immediately improved in idle quality, the car was run up to speed and air fuel ratio (af) and boost were watched carefully, scan tool showing the timing vs target, as was well a full pull was made, the numbers flashed up, 348hp/346 ftlb torque. This is now at a 21psi boost level, so the boost is down 2 psi, and the car is making more horsepower, good.

The car was run through a series of other pulls to verify that the tune was totally safe and would stand up to repeated dyno pulls, this is part of the testing procedure, standard operation.

The methanol was added to the tank, care was taken to not spill it on the customers paint, system was primed a few times, car stumbles, and delivery seems good.

A few unmetered test pulls and half pulls are made to dial in the air fuel ratio with methanol.
The boost is progressively increased to near 28Psi, and the car is now registering an astounding 402 HP and 437 ft lb torque on 93 octane gas and methanol injection.
Mark makes repeated runs at the increased boost level to ensure safety and checks the scan tool repeatedly.

At this point the car is removed from the dyno and put through stringent testing on the road to ensure driveability and overall transitional grace. There are a few adjustments made to the Alky kit and some low-end adjustment on the flash.

The owner is happy, “Case” closed.

Is the point of this thread to prove that mix matching parts isn't neccassarily a bad move?

Thanks

Mark,

I'm considering getting my car tuned by TurboTrix in the next month or so. My concern is that word of mouth/posts on here say that your tunes are running very aggressive timing and leaner A/Fs than Dynoflash (my other option). Are your tunes safe enough for a daily driver? Will I have to worry about my motor's health after the tune?

any chance you could answer my question please sir? Not trying to get a free tune over the internet or anything...just wanted to know about timing in relation to stock...either advanced over stock(by a good bit, or barely...) or if it is right at stock, or less advanced than stock.

Thanks mark!
