dynoflash vs. others

I am about to tune the evo in two weeks and im stuck on who to go through with it. I am a local in arizona so i could go to DynoComp (insanely expensive), VividRacing (less, but still expensive), or i could go through dynoflash and mail in my ECU and get it flashed by them for much, much less. Are there any benefits of dynoflash over using a local tuner? will i get the same outcome? are there any other ways to get the same work done with less money?

I have had my car tune at DYNOcomp by Richard Garcia and yes indeed that guy is expensive but look were he is located, between the Lotus dealer and a bunch of other fancy dealers on that same avenue. Notice also how clean that shop is, perhaps the nicest around, wouldn't you agree?

I also had my cars tune by Dynoflash(all my Mitsubishi cars were tune by dynoflash).

Dynoflash is a very good tuner and your car will run very safe. I lamost got Al here this month but at least 4 of the people that I count on participating on the tune sold their Evos so I am starting all over again.

A mail flash is a cheap alternative. If you decide to go to Vividracing at least give a try to Mitch(magnupsi on this forum) , he is a competent nice guy that will take care of you.

If you don't want to send your ECU and want to get it tune in town you can always get Mynes Performance but I think they will suggest you to get the ECUTEK

bhennesy,
I am so glad you asked this question. I am in the same boat. I know some of the guys at Vivid. Awesome facility. Great products and prices. I sent a PM to Mitch asking the same question. I prefer to take my business there.

Then there is the almighty DynoComp. They had a Lambo sit on thier showroom floor for a month for christ sake. They deal with some of the most high-end cars you will see. They seem to cater to STi's for some reason though. Being in Scottsdale with the rep they have and surrounded by money they are super expensive.

I have also heard good things about Mynes. I think it's kinda far from the Phoenix/Scottsdale area??

Then we have the option of doing a mail in or email flash for as little as $50! I do want the car dynoed and tuned as well. But keeping cost in mind... I need some advice too.... Any info would be appreciated.

Whatever you do get a custom flash. You definitely get what you pay for. If you get enough people together I'm sure one of the reputable tuners will come down to your town.

^^^ We do have some good tuners here in AZ. Just trying to decide which to go with at a performance to cost ratio.

Anybody wanna chime in with $$ prices of what it should run for a tune/flash/dyno at one of the mentioned shops??? Estimate...

If you want to have Dynoflash custom tuning your car let me know and we can make it happen but I need confirmation for it. Dynoflash can come here and will come here anytime you need but he needs at aleast 5 people commited.

Shops will charge you anywhere from $350-600. It all depends on the shop... Just call them and find out. Usually they will work out a deal if you have a couple of guys together.

For example me and a bunch of other Turkish guys have been using TT up in NJ for all our tuning needs and we have always gotten good prices.

At what cost? How would that work? They just bring the laptop? Street tune?

Al usually does it for $3XX for a custom road tune and will also just flash your ecu for much less if thats all you want. He just brings his equipment with him. I believe AMS from Chi town does this as well.

Is it Al from Dynoflash? He doesn't want to come out here when it's 120* outside!

Dyno tuning is the best route for a concise tune....however if you use a mail in flash....go with a jestr tune....(I am a former Dyno flash client FWIW)

$$$ doesn't care if its cold or hot outside bud... Get your 5 guys together and contact him. Also, if a local shop wants to throw together a bbq and host Al as the guest tuner on their dyno even better. Although, I have to agree that road tuning will get you a better tune.

I had both a ttm and a custom flash on my 03evo, and started out with a ttm flash on my 06. al is a good tuner and the ttm flashes are a great way to get a few extra hp for the $$, however it cannot replace a custom tune. jestr was able to get 25hp at the wheels within 2 runs on the dyno from my ttm flash(I am not bashing al at all, as I am sure he would have similar results had he been the one tuning in person ).

my .02 are if you want a simple, set it and forget it tune, then do a ttm flash from al, as they are proven and will get you a few hp for not a lot of $$, but if you want the most from your car, then look into a custom tune, either from a local shop or organize a tuning day from a fly-in vendor, or another option is to purchase the wideband and tactrix cable and work with any of the 1/2 dozen or so vendors that offer a ttm custom flash with you doing the logging...

lots of options, just have to weigh what fits with your budget and goals for the car..

fwiw, I will never do a road tune again. driving up and down the freeway at 90+ with al trying to tune a car vs. tuning on a dyno in a controlled environment was a much better experience for me. there are many threads debating the differences, but I will be a dyno tuner for life after experiencing the difference between the 2..

I had a base AMS flash on my car for some time. It felt really strong so i would have to recommend them. Heard to many things that arent exactly how can i say it, positive about dynoflash. AMS are all stand up guys and are always there to answer the phone, lol.
