AMSOIL SSO 0W-30 Review after 6200 Mi.
#17
I didn't really want to start a new thread just for a few comments so I hope you don't mind if I revive this thread.
I've been a long time user/lover of Amsoil and I just recently did an oil change with the 0W-30 oil. After I did the change I couldn't believe how much difference I felt. You might wonder why and so did I because those of you who use Amsoil should know the performance is usually the same from change to change. I have a sneaky suspicion that the Amsoil 5W-30 thickened up a bit on me.
Long story short I tried both 5W-30 and 0W-30 and I have to say I prefer the 0W-30 because it doesn't cause as much startup noise (knocking from lifters) while also giving great performance over the life of it. With the 5W-30 I did an analysis after my first oil change with the car and it showed REALLY low numbers but it also showed it had turned to a 5W-40.
So in a couple weeks I should be getting another analysis of this run with 5W-30 but in the mean time I'm loving the 0W-30. It just seems like the past couple months my car has been lacking a bit of power (hence my discussion on installing a header) and has been starting with less umpf. Now when I put it in first gear to cruise the parking lots my car sounds like a Rally car again.

Wow this review came alive again.
to the OP, Blackstone is way underating your drain interval that oil can be taken way above 7500 regardless we can all se how this oil proves itself to stand to the abuse and exceed expectations for our heavily modified cars, the SSO oil is designed to go to 35K yeah you heard right 35k, TBN is very high.
i would still like to see the analysis report.
oh and by the way you guys know that Blackstone labs is not a certified lab, thats why you never see ASTM reports, they also leave out oxydation report, oxidation is very important specially in turbocharged cars, you want to know if your oil is carying to much of it.

OP, the engine is looking beutifull, the first 6 metals on tha report are the important ones and they are loking super low, bottom line the engine is wearing like it sould, you can see where the ANTI WEAR additives wich are the ones that protect the engine from metal to metal contact that AMSOIL uses are Zinc and Phosforus are at a very high content in your report, if you look a t a report from a MOBIL 1 or something else you will see very low numbers.
your fuel dilution is ver good as well <0.2
the only thing i would reccomend you do is to keep an eye on the IRON content you are at 18 PPM, nothing to get crazy about but make sure next time to send a sample that number doest continue to climb.

Ive had many many reports over the years pass thrue my screen and I have witnessed the difference alone in the additive package.
One quick comment i can make is how much commercially sold oils like mobil load up their oil's with slippery additives like Moly but they lack in the most important additive package wich is Zinc and Phos these two are a must as far as anti wear goes, when you are running cars like we are under high boost and high loads you need to be able to sepparte metal to metal contact and no one can tell me you can accomplish that with slippery additives (MOLY), to have a reliable engine that has been modified out of its conmfort zone you have to do it by sepparating the metal to metal contact that is seen between the cams and rockers, piston rings and cylinder wall, bearings and crank ect....
