My CBRD experience
So I finally decided to not be stock anymore and sent Chad@CBRD a PM asking what he thought would be a good direction to go in for the STU class. I figured at the very least, he'd send me a couple quick suggestions out of the spirit of supporting the Evo racing community.
The response I did get from him was a bit ... different than what I was expecting. It wasn't at all minimalistic. I was then invited to the shop to sit down with him and discuss options. I took a day off and went up there with my bro.
We got to the shop and as I walked in, I looked at Chris and said, "um... I'm probably out of my league here
". But when Chad came out, we sat down had some Dews and discussed the car, my racing habits, what I'm looking for and what the best way is to meet those goals. I was really taken by the attitude of the whole staff. Calib even took us out for a spin in his white Evo... which is beastly, btw. BBK in my near future, I'm sure
After discussing the issues I had in the stock class, my issues with the car as I recall them from last season; he built a worksheet for me with the parts I would need to accommodate the power I'm looking for and my driving style. The best part about it is, he broke me of my unnecessary JDM cultism
and recommended parts based on extensive research and proven gains.
I honestly cannot say I could be happier! Not only did he get the job done, professional, and on time, but was also able to drop my driver seat (cause I'm too damn tall -- thanks to the binary low boy brackets) and built a custom rear plate bracket so my rear license plate (on JDM rear) doesn't look so damn sloppy.
I'm very pleased indeed! I wrote this up during my break at work so I don't have pics or scans of the dyno sheet yet (coming soon) but to give you guys an idea, I went from stock to 321/308 - 24psi .... with no boost controler (STU restriction). Considering stock on the CBRD dyno (Chad can correct me if I'm wrong of course) is about 235/230, the gains are more than I hoped for considering the budget I had to work with. A+ for efficiency
Driving out of his shop, when I got on the first major road, I gave it a bit of gas and was completley shocked (cought of gaurd
) and the rear kicked out a bit. The first thing that came to mind was the conversation with Chad when I told him that my style is a bit hot and I had a tendancy of pushing in the turns... clearly he was paying attention
I spent the rest of the weekend burning away about 2 tanks of gas (with better milage now actually) driving the car. I went through every twisty road I know of (at the speed limit ... of course
) The car is now a completely different animal. I'm in love with her all over again! And I can say honestly, CBRD was beyond a great choice for me; espeically since, dispite the fact that I was a bit intimidated by the shop when I first went in, the staff is very friendly and the prices are very resonable considering the quality of work and the proven delivery.
Pics and scans coming soon...

Do it!!! I know for an absolute FACT I will be. I'm just fighting off the urge for this season because I'm already registerd with the SCCA as STU; and I'm pretty sure that having a demon possessed turbo that winds up faster than I would at a Japanese model convention is not allowed
From the experience in Calib's car though, it's definitely BAMF!

Brought her to work today (got a few people at the office that want me to take them for a spin)... getting a bit more accustomed to the new torque levels. One of my favorite-fastest curves is on the way to work; I liked how she handled it. Even though it was a bit wet (on worn RT-615s) she stayed very flat and with the new response and wind up, throttle steering is much cleaner
Nice review. I concur with the consultation time. Beau coup time was spent with me as well, when I'm sure they could have been earning money. I think it will pay off in the long run. I like to look at is as customer "brewing" time. Hopefully soon I'll post a full review as well.
I'm bummed about redline too. No events nearby makes it difficult to meet a goal of competing. Maybe NJ, or Illinois??? I'll def do some more HPDE's at Summit though.
