Xede Install Questions

I just purchased Xede and want to install it, but I need to get my car back to "stock" with a cat back exhaust. I have an aem short ram intake, mbc, and test pipe to remove. I figured out ho to remove the intake and test pipe, but cannot figure out how to reconnect the stock boost solenoid. Here is what I did..... From the stock boost solenoid there are two places to hook up the hoses. the rear one i connected to the stock air box. The front one i connected to a T and then one side of the T went to the turbo and the other went to the wastegate actuator. There is a brass restrictor pill in the hose that goes from the T to the turbo, but I removed the brass pill from the hose connected directly to the stock solenoid(like the Xede instructions say).

I then installed the Xede. Went smoothly enough, but everytime I hit 4500 rpm's it just hesitates(like fuel cut). This happens every time I hit 4500 rpm's even if the car is not moving and it is in neutral. Everything I read seems to indicate a boost cut, that is why I want to make sure I have to stock boost solenoid hooked up correctly.

Thanks for any advice you guys could give me.

Try this. Download maps from XEDE onto your laptop. Look at the boost table (usually labeled "unknown") It will have a lot of "100s" in it. Select the entire map and type "0". This will drop your boost to the mechanical spring setting of 12psi. Save map as another name. Burn maps to XEDE. Drive your car. Confirm that boost dropped to around 12psi. If it did, everything is installed fine and all you have to do is run the same 'ol baseline map but with slightly reduced boost table values.

I have not been able to try that yet, hopefully later this week. I just want to make sure I have everything else hooked up properly. When i hooked up the stock boost selenoid, The stock air box hooked up to the back seleniod plug, and the front plug went to a 'T' from the 'T' one hose went to the wastegate actuator, and the other hose went to the the turbo. In the hose that went to the turbo there is a restrictor, is that correct? I removed the restrictor near the selenoid. Can someone confirm that this setup is correct.

Yes that is correct...... you may need an additional "bleed tube" in the future, available through Vishnu, although the way you have it will be fine for now...be sure that you leave the restrictor in the pipe that goes to the pressure side of the turbo (you did describe it as though it was there) because without it you will not be able to build any boost as your wastegate will open too soon..
Hope this helps

Shiv, I tried what you said 'set the boost table to all 0's and the same thing is happening. I am really stumped here. I get to 4500 rpm's and it just cuts out. The only thing that I have noticed both times while I had the Xede installed was that the 'SERVICE ENGINE SOON' light comes on. It is not on before I install it, and its not on after I take it out? The boost line is not in the same plug that plugs into the xede harness, am I correct? At least that is what the instructions say. I have waited a while to get this and now I am bummed I can't get it working. The car runs strong while its not in, so I would assume all mechanical stuff is alright. Let me know if you have any other thoughts.

If you xero'd out your map and the boost still is too high, it is likely that you extracted the wrong green wire from your stock ecu harness. In other words, the stock ECU is still controlling boost. But with the pill removed, you will overboost.

You did burn the map (with the zero boost map) into the xede before testing it, right?

Yes i did. Is the boost wire in the far left ecu plug. The far right plug gets plugged into the xede harness then into the ecu. At least thats how I understood the instructions. There is a green wire in the far right ecu plug, should I try that wire? Could you give me a call. It may be easier to explain over the phone. 484-955-5029

There is more than one green wire in the plug you describe...
the green wire you want is the third wire in on the opposite side to the white retaining clip that you lift

IIRC, it's not the far left plug. In fact, I believe the far left plug is the one replaced by the XEDE right? The green wire you're looking for is in the largest plug I think. I'm going on memory here so I could be totally wrong but I remember making the same mistake based on the directions. If you're replacing a wire that's in the plug the XEDE is in, it's the wrong one. Study the pictures carefully, noting the front and back of the plug, and you'll find it. Take a look at this thread: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=96157

Everything seems to point toward the boost being my problem. can I hook up the xede without hooking up the boost wire, just to make sure that is what my problem is? or will the xede not work if you do that?

You can allow the factory ECU to control the boost but you should put the pill back in that line.

I am just trying to figure out if the boost is the problem, I am thinkging that maybe it is something else, but I can't be possitive unless I test that theory. My brother has been helping me with the install and he is right at 4500 rpms, even if I am driving slowly once it hits 4500 rpms it cuts out. Could the unit itsself be bad?

Shiv,

As soon as I get some free time I will install it again and head to a shop to see what code I am throwing. Hopefully it is nothing major, and can be fixed over the phone. My head is starting to spin, I wanna get this install and get my car back on the dyno. Thanks for all of your help.
