crankcase or valve cover vents?

Last month at Dyno4mance we found a little oil in the IC. I know this is normal blow by and not cause for much concern, but I i want to catch it. Which vents should i be dealing with?

An oil catch can would be a viable solution.

Another would be to disconnect the PCV system by locating the hose that links the intake vacuum with the valve cover. The hose taps into the intake between the MAF and turbo, and would be removed from nipple on the intake pipe, which would need to be capped. Next, a breather would be added to the end of the hose to trap oil vapors from the crankcase that would otherwise be vented.

Be advised that this is technically a no-no, so you're better off just installing an oil catch can in that line. These catch can kits can be ordered from various suppliers of EVO parts.

I installed a catch can to the PCV system about a week ago. Other than some fumes, no oil as of yet. There is a really light coating on the inside of the plumbing though. Better in the tubes than in the intake.

im sure the concept is the same but FWIW i have an STi

TED: you say it's a no-no, why? Environmental reasons right?

Correct. But actually, the PCV system is not 'bad', just not perfect. A catch can alleviates the real drawback (oily residue in the intake tract).

Yeah I have been meaning to put one of these catch Can's on my car too....I have a decent amount of oil in my intake. I was told by a mechanic (a good one) that if you increase the your oil to like 40 weight that it actually helps seal better in the turbo and causes much less blow by...if any at all. This guy rebuilds turbos so that there isn't any blow by, and more efficient....so I'm guessing he knows what he's talking about.
