Much faster spool, although some of that has to be attributable to the free-er flowing exhaust. If one were to just do the housing, the spool up might actually be slower, but having the lighter internals does wonders IMO.

You can get just the housing, but it's my understanding that it's somewhat of a pain to install. Or, you can do like I did and get the whole turbo http://linux.forcedperformance.net/m...ode=Lancer_EVO
Either way the whole turbo needs to come out for the install, with a whole turbo you just swap the O2 housing and put it back in. If you were to just do the 10.5 housing you'd then remove the stock 9.8 housing, replace it, then put back in the car. Just the housing is significantly cheaper but I didn't want to sacrafice low end a'la lag.

ok, so for 1000 bucks, why not by a all around better turbo? i mean, why not upgrade the entire thing instead of just the compressor housing?

For some people if they're going to spend that much on a turbo, they might go for broke and get a much larger kit for a little more.

I wanted to retain stock driveability so I went with this one, and as you can see the numbers are very nice and the car has almost no difference in feel.

The true test was whether or not my wife would hate it (like she ends up doing with all my cars) She loves it now, loved it before, loves it even more now. I'm very happy with this setup so far.

$1000 for the whole turbo, $300 for just the larger hot side...

oh, ok, that sounds much better.

how hard is it to take apart the turbo? if you can't do it, how much are people charging to do it?

Did you do all these mods at once? How many mods were applied before adding the new turbo?

I did them all at once. I figured since I'd have the top of the engine off to do the cams I might as well do the turbo too. But, it's much easier to just do the turbo and not a lot of what needs to be removed to do the cams applies to the turbo R & R. Oh yeah, since I was doing the exhaust at the same time it made sense there too as the downpipe needs to be removed for the turbo too.

Okay, nutshell answer. I went from a completely stock car to all the mods you see in my sig at one time.

Smart move, if you're planning on Modding. No cents to pay labor two or three times, and don't forget the tunning charge too...

There was no labor charge as I did it all myself. But you're right, the tuning it once is the way to go.

So what performance difference is there in just paying $300 for the new 10.5 hot side and installing it on your existing turbo, rather than dropping nearly a grand for a complete turbo that ends up being the same thing.

Maybe Im missing something. Did the turbo that you bought have the titanium internals like the TME 6.5?
