disappointed with dynoflash, want cannonball?

Hey i have beenusing the dynoflash for about 7 months now, and im not exactly pleased. This is what im talking about. Im happy with how the car feels, however, i know for a fact that it runs INCREDIBLY rich at anything over 4k rpm. So rich in fact that i can see the black smoke billowing out in my rearview as i accelerate.

I know its hard to tune a car with a mail in flash, but i think the car is actually running richer now than it was from the factory.

so i guess what im trying to figure out s whats best for me. I know that the xflash is pretty good, but im about to stop modding for speed, and start modding for handling and braking. so i dont want to spend too much more on go fast goodies.

is the cannonball flash tuned to your mods? or is it just a base flash that doesnt change regardless of your mods?

also is the xflash tuner available?

thanks for any information.

This is exactly what happened with my '03 EVO 8. When Al custom tuned it, it determined that the car was "knock prone". At first it was thought that it was bad gasoline and after running through as much of the full tank of Quick Trip 93 octane as possible, we added Silver Amoco and a bottle of octane booster. After this, Al though the car ran better but still, he de-tuned it from the factory settings.... I also ended up with a very rich running car. I'm not sure what the power output was since I never dynoed it before and after (big mistake that I'll not repeat).
When George at Busted Solutions test drove the car he said "there is something wrong with the tune" and "I can fix that, it'll run a ton better with the AEM EMS".... Famous last words Anyway, at the very end of my sad story, my car made the most safe power with the Vishnu Xede and Xflash and the stock intake. Somehow Shiv & his crew took care of the knock problem (I think it was some other mechanical noise).
If I were you, I'd take that car to Dyno4mance and have Andrew check it out before you do anything else to the car. You have to know where you are before you can start going somewhere else........

Evil// hey thanks for the info so far. Please keep everyone posted on your progress.. BTW you seem very well integrated with your philosophy of not letting the illigitimate grind you down..However in this case with your car, whether legitimately or not it seems as if your tuners simply jumped to an incorrect conclusion. Although one of them is no longer in business I hope you gave them a fair chance to provide a remedy.

Yeah, don't let the bastards grind you down is always good advise ...... In all fairness, I never did dyno my car after the custom Dynoflash, so I cannot post any kind of evidence to prove any power gains or losses. My butt dyno was not happy with the Dynoflash because it did no seem to make more power than the stock EVO. Again let me say that I have no solid proof one way or another......

As far as Busted Solutions goes, I gave them too many chances to make the car right. This only resulted in my loss of use of my car for weeks at the time and they continued to screw up the car more and more. I have dyno proof of their incompetent work as well as plenty of invoices for repairs that other shops had to do to correct Busted Solutions hacking of my car

Here is the straight story:

1. Scot Gray can tune an AEM EMS by email better than Busted Solutions could do in 3 months of screwing with the car. From my experience I consider Scot an authority on the AEM EMS and a first class guy

2. Dyno4mance can tune the AEM EMS better than Busted Solutions ever could even though they absolutely deny any tuning expertise with the AEM EMS.

3. Dyno4mance can get more power out of the same car with the XEDE and Xflash and incredibly superior driveability.... No question about it

4. This is probably the most important thing, do not do any power mod to the car without a baseline dyno run or runs. And do not take anybody's word or butt dyno feeling as proof of performance. Even 1/4 mile times and trap speeds can very enormously due to driver or other conditions. The dyno should be the final arbiter of the results. The proof will be on paper, no BS, no lies. Plus, the dyno will tell if the car is running safely. Too many ppl have blown engines from overly aggressive tuning.

If you have the chance, go to Dyno4mance for your baseline runs. Also, don't pass the chance to let Andrew (& Barry if he's there) to install and tune whatever they suggest. After spending tons of cash and lots of time on wasted bullsh!t, I can tell anybody that Dyno4mance is the only place that I'll trust with my car.

Forget it I don't even have that car anymore. Al knows my situation and if he thought I should have some kind of refund, I suspect I'd gotten it already.

This day was bound to happen sooner or later. I'd vote for an Xflash over the cannonball, but if you want to make your car really zing and be adaptable, get an XEDE. Cam gears are also another way to really make your car fly for very little green.

Yeah, ive been tossing around the cam gear idea since i first bought the car. I guess ill have to wait till after the holidays and get all the goodies ive been wanting. cam gears, 10.5 hot side, and a tuneable piggyback or stand alone. then after that, im concentrating on handling and braking.

oh yeah, and a BOV that holds more than 21 psi.
