Running out of gearing????

Got a question for you guys. My last few runs on the street(since ive added the new toys) have had me pondering some things.

How many of you guys are bouncing off of the 4th gear limiter crossing the line?

At what point (power wise) have you guys seen that people are running out of that gear?

What can you do about this? I know shifting into 5th has to cost a bit of time because that gear is soooo damn long.......

Lets have a nice discussion about this please!

The car does really lay down when you have to upshift to fifth, but with a 1 or 1+, you aren't going to have anywhere near the power to hit the rev limiter in fourth in the quarter mile.

Mathematically, the car will do 120mph at 7400rpm; a factory flashed car should be able to attain the RPM before hitting the rev limiter. If you look at a reflashed car that can rev to around 7800rpm, you can hit 125mph just a breath before fuel cut.

ok, i didn't think it was nearly that far away. seems like i was boucing off the rev limiter earlier than that.....

i know i was at 7k at 112ish...

last race i ran i hit the rev limiter just after we crossed the line.....but, it wasn't at the track, so it could be a little long.....

glad to know that it is more like 125.......so thats atleast mid 11s before i need to start worrying about that???

Yeah, low 11s.
You're tach and speedo are pretty close, though. 113mph is 7000rpm in 4th.

Need about 390whp (DD dyno) to reach fuel cut in 4th gear on the drag strip. This will be around 122-123mph. In order to go any faster, you need to make massively more power (maybe 500+whp) OR a bit more power and revised gear ratios/higher rev limit.

Without breaking into the diffs (BIG $$$) you could try a taller tire diameter which in essense will give you a numerically lower/taller gear ratio.

From: Aberdeen, NJ now in Ca.
I went with the taller tires but what I'd really like is a wide-ratio transmission. I would really like to have a 1500 ~ 1700 rpm gear change span.
