Reliable?

hey guys, i'm thinking about getting either the v390 or the 360 just wondering which one would be the more reliable one, the 360 looks pretty simple since its pretty much just gears and a tune, but then again the 390 is just adding cams... soo not sure. I'm mainly concerned about the stock turbo and transmission stuff. can it handle this kind of power?

These stages are pretty reliable, no worries there but I would go with the 390 as you will get the most out of the stock turbo. Tranny and engine wise you wont face any issues. However, your clutch won’t last long after that or in other words it wont grip enough to handle the power. Good luck.

I'd stick with the 360. You won't really save any $ doing the cams at the same time. Do them later when you get bored with 360bhp. Use your savings to pick up a stiff rear sway bar and a custom more aggressive allignment and a boost gauge.

As long as you are on your stock turbo and don't practice launching , your stock drivetrain will be fine for at least 30,000 miles.

I have the 1+(390) and everything is reliable, if not better than stock. You get a smoother powerband, better gas mileage [for me at least], and best yet more power! I can't say there is anything bad w/ the kit. And if you're worrying about the cams dont fret much. People complain about a lump idle and stalling, but my car when warmed up stays perfectly at 900rpm, it's all in the tuning. If you drive the car correctly you won't have to worry much about the clutch. I mean there really isn't much point going ALL out till the point of hurting drivetrain anyways wouldn't you agree?

i agree... with xepyt the 390 is the way to go. with v390 (more like 410 on race gas). u can crush z06's and svt cobras with that amount of power. its a very fast car for a little money. ho can you beat that price for reliability and speed? im gettin the hotside in the mail and installin that soon.. that increases torque by about 20-30 ft/lbs// its great mod on top of 390.

hmm i think i'm going to get the 360 kit for now, and yea i'm planning to get gauges, TT and rear sway bar lower arm braces and a rear strut bar before getting the vishnu stage. I'm going to get the Helix IC piping also when i get the Vishnu kit just so i wont have the IC pipe popping off the intake manifold problem i've heard about. 390 seems like alot of power, and i think thats on 91 pump gas also.. hopefully the clutch will be fine for now, after these mods my budget is going to be $0 again, so sad =(
thanks for the replies guys! keep em coming!

I'm running stock hoses and piping. I don't think that a stage 1 or 1+ will have any problems such as those. Now when you go on to stage 2 or 3....

I had a stage 1 and went to a stage 1+ (v390) ... IMO it is definitely worth it to go to the v390 right off the bat if you can afford it. I run on a 93 Octance tune, and going with the cams made a world of difference to me, since the car now pulls noticeably harder in the higher rpms. I run 272/272 HKS cams set to -4/-1 and the idle is smooth as stock. I also run the XEDE with XEDEflash (raises rev limit, eliminates boost cut, and speed limiter) and again, if you can afford it, I'd definitely get the XEDE over the X-flash. For example, in the colder weather here right now in Chicago, I've been able to readjust my boost tables to eliminate overboosting in the colder air (can't do that with the X-flash).

IMO the tranny can handle the power, but as with stock Evos, if you abuse it, it will fail. Of course with that much more power on tap it does become harder not to wail on the car. I have ~21K on the car (13K with Vishnu products) and am still on the original clutch and brakes.

Hey guys, this is slightly off topic, but have any of you with the stage 1+ passed emissions tests? If not, that would be the only reason I would not go for the v390.

It's been reported that a stage 1 (v360) should pass CA emissions testing. However, stage 1+ (v390) is pretty iffy.
