One Lap EVO.......trailer hitch

iirc, the one lap car pulled fuel & wheels for the duration of the event. I obviously dont have an EVO, but a hitch is a hitch. Any tips or recommendations? I'm looking to get a trailer for autox wheels & tools.

Also, were there any negative effects to the handling or otherwise with the hitch assembly installed?

I dont know how it goes for EVO's but the STi's manual says NO to hitches and hauling loads on general.

On the same note, I do have an evo, and I am looking for such a hitch. Wondering where you guys got yours as well.

Hitch

Do a thorough search and you will find a thread by a member that is selling a very slick hitch for the Evo. Sorry can't identify it.

You don't want Vishnu's hitch - I believe their solution went through the bumper.

I have a class 3 (!) hitch welded to the frame of my EVO. Nothing hard about the install, it's welded to the rear-most portion of the frame rails and to the toe hook at the rear of the spare tire well. It is all tucked up in there with a square cut out of the bottom of the bumper cover for the hitch to poke through. I have it for my bike rack. Long story short, every town has a local welder that will make you one for a couple or few hundred bucks. Just make sure you check his references and look around his shop at some of his work. Think of it as an underbody chassis stiffener

I contacted tire tail, they plan to develop an Evo application but it will be a while. In the mean time they will make custom ones if you send them a picture of the hitch you are oging to use.

How much weight were you pulling with that one lap trailer? From the pics I saw it looks like you had it pretty loaded down. Any towing issues?

Yea, I don't like those because they can mare the finish, you can't open the trunk with it on and my unconventional frame won't fit right etc

do you have pics?

I have a hitch mounted bike rake too, but can't find a decent trailer hitch for the EVO.

Way overloaded I would guess and easy 1000lbs on a trailer rated for about half that. Having said that, it was absolutely no problem towing with it. Car went straight and true, so true that you would forget and creep the cruising speed over a 100 (on 10 inch tires!). I have towed my dirt bike to Moab from my house via 70 and it worked great as well. It was a heavy U-haul trailer and the car was still the quickest thing up the >10k ft. passes(!) over 1000lb total weight. Plenty of power, relatively good fuel economy (210 on a tank loaded vs. 250-270). The trailer had a big fold up tail gate that acted like a parachute so I know that cost me a MPG or two.

Chrono, now you just need to come up with a hitch mounted rear spoiler.

Paul, that is one way to address the front/rear weight bias... Probably more like 55f and 45 rear with the rack

By the way, your car looks as clean as the area around Shiv's dyno.
