XEDE and Injectors

I know that people say that with the Stock Turbo, we do not need bigger injectors, but I am going to start purchasing parts to work my way to a bigger snail. Hoping to purchase an ATP 3037S in the future. Just wondering what injectors are recommended as far as using the XEDE and plug and play ability on the Evo.

When you go with larger injectors you sacrifice part throttle and low RPM off boost driveability. This will most likely not be noticeable with 660cc injectors and maybe even 700-800cc injectors. The problem is that the injector needs to be open for such a short period of time at low RPMs and part throttle to deliver the correct amount of fuel, so you may end up with more fuel than necessary even though you have tuned to account for it. The injector could simply not be open for a short enough amount of time to deliver a small enough amount of fuel.

The XEDE can be tuned for larger injectors, but it is not the recommended approach. What you should do is send your ECU to Vishnu and have Shiv rescale the ECU for the larger injectors. The reason for this is the XEDE alters signal inputs on account of a base ECU map, but if you have to lean the XEDE a certain amount across the board to make up for the larger injectors (depending how big you go) you're already moving away from the center point on the XEDE's signal alteration scale. Whereas if your ECU was set up for the larger injectors, the XEDE could stay at 0 alteration and you have a center point to tune off of leaving you with more tunability.

As far as what injectors to go with, I would say somewhere in the ballpark of 700cc depenting on how much boost you plan on running. There's a formula to determine the ultimate level of HP an injector can support. I know that on a 6 cylinder motor it works out to be right around the size of the injector. For example, a set of 550's on a 6 cylinder motor can deliver enough fuel for 550CHP. It's fair to assume that 2/3 of that is what 550's can deliver on a 4 cylincer, so the stock injectors should theoretically max out at 366CHP. We all know the stock injectors have been pushed way past this (450CHP), but it's a general formula to work off of.

Hope this helps...

Yeah, I know shiv is coming to ATL area in april and I plan on being there but dont have a time slot for me as I dont have any new parts since I was tuned in Oct...I was hoping to get some injectors by April to get my ECU re-XEDEflashed, but i guess with new injectors the XEDE would need to be retuned as well, or is it as easy as just throwing in the new Injectors and XEDEflashing and calling it a day??..I had read that the XEDEflash is the correct way to compensate for new injectors but i was thinking of maybe getting something in the 700-800cc range, or maybe even 660-680ish. What brand/style is prefered on the Evo as far as plug and play installation. I dont want to have to trim and rig everything up.

I think IE EVO has a 3037 not sure though he has a Stage 3 from Vishnu... might want to ask him about this.
