XEDE serial output protocol?

Is there anyway to get the protocol the XEDE uses? I'd like to write a program for my PDA so that I can use it as a datalogger.

TIA

That would be so nice. Palm or Windows?

I develop for the Windows platform (.NET). Ideally I would like to put this on my smartphone, but it will be easier on a PocketPC (I have a compaq IPAQ and a Toshiba e750). Both have 9-pin RS-232 cables

I guess I'll just wirte some test code this weekend and capture whatever it is sending and compare it to what XMAP stores. I hate reverse engineering stuff, but I can't find anything.

I have found an email address at ChipTorque (I guess they are the manufacturers of the XEDE) so maybe they will help me out.

I have official protocol specs from chiptorque. I've been working on a Unix port, but haven't really had much time lately. If you're interested in helping out, pm me.

Hi guys,
Chiptorque's technical director, Lachlan Riddel, is sitting with me right now. He's agreed to provide the serial output protocal. He's going to see if he can do it remotely through the folks in Australia. But it may have to wait until they open up on Monday. We'd love to see what you guys can whip up

I've already had quite a bit of correspondence with the Rhys'es. I wish had a bunch more time to devote to the project in the immediate future, but my schedule is packed for the next few weeks.

For those interested,

I have a head full of ideas, but at the very least it would be nice to have a general purpose xede library for cross application use. I have written the outline of such a thing, but I haven't had time to work out some silly serial port problem I'm having. There is even talk of chiptorque releasing the source to their communication code. At the moment, they tell me it's unclear whether it will break the map password feature.

Shiv & Lachlan,

You guys rock! I will PM my private email address over now.

Donour,

I will PM you as well. I can do the low level stuff in C++ and abstract it away from the platform so all you will have to do is provide the communications code.

Anyway, I'm stoked about this.

As I discussed with Shiv last summer I'm considering building up a single din mount display / control that will tap into the Xede's serial bus, as well as the OBD II connector. There is a low cost Linux based Intel Xscale PXA255 processor w/ bluetooth & MMC card slot that seems to be well suited for this task and permit a PDA / notebook to interface wirelessly with the Linux board. In addition I want to use Defi sensors for oil / fuel pressure, temp, etc given their availability and quality. Finally a bit map VFD (display) should be a nice touch that can handle all temperature conditions (e.g. no LCD problems with temperature extremes.)

I'm interested in making this an open source development such that I don't have to accept 100% of the software development burden. Plus I'm not that good at man machine interface design (e.g. anyone can do a better job than me on graphics design).

All of this has been hinged on the release of the protocol. Is there any interest in such a project?

Ideas for additional features (e.g. wideband input, map storage)?

By the look of it there appears to be several people willing to help out on the development side and several people interested in using the end product.

Our goals and platforms are fairly different, but the main thing we are interested in is a library that we can use to communicate with the XEDE. I think an OSS project around that would be a good approach allowing everybody to benefit.

Bump

As per earlier mesgs, this was delayed because of a bunch of travel in the winter, but i'm
going to be putting more time into the project soon. PM if interested.

Ok, I found a stupid (embarrassingly stupid) bug in my code that was causing the Xede to drop connect requests from my test code. I just tried it again during my lunch break and everything seems to be working the way it should be.

Hello homebrew/mac/unix datalogging and mapping.

Wow, it's May already. Is anybody still interested?
