Help please

Hey guys, the other day i was driving and i noticed that my windows went up and down verrrrry slowly. i chcked my apexi tt and the volt reading was 11 and it was blinking. the voltage dropped slowly to around 7 then got to 5 or 6 and the car just shut off while running. i was stuck on a dark road in the rain with no batteries whatsoever.

I jumped the car and the voltage read 10 and slowly dropped again to 5 and the car died. this happened twice.

i put in a new battery yesterday and it was of decent quality but the voltage reading is a steady 11, still blinking, and still too low from my original 14.

any thoughts as to what could be wrong?

thanks
Anand

Maybe it is your alternator or regulator.

Not really. It sounds like a problem I was having when I rebuilt my 67 mustang. The alternator was bad and that caused the battery to not hold any charge. As for what made it go, I have no idea. If the car is pretty stock take it to the dealership and have them run a check for you.

Check your chassis ground. Sounds like it's loose or not connected. That will do very wierd things to system voltage and battery charging.

Yeah, definitely check your alternator. Classic symptoms of one that is giving up the ghost. I have something similar happening on my A8 right now and am praying that it is just an old battery giving up its ghost and not the althernator or accessory belt tensioner.
