Installed XEDE yesterday, car backfires and stalls...

Got my XEDE in yesterday and on the positive side, car boosts to 21/22 psi and holds around 20 psi. Good!

Problem is car has backfired at low RPMs 6 times since then. Not sure why. ALso, car stalls really bad especially when you step on and then off the gas at low rpms. Also stalls when when I come to a stop. I have an 03 VIII with the following and the XEDE is suppoesd to be loaded with an appropriate map fo my mods:
HKS 272i/272e
Cam gears -3/-3
Turbo-back with no cat
Walbro fuel pump
Intake w cone filter

Car stalled since intake (prior to XEDE) but I thought the XEDE w map tuned for aftermarket intake would help. However, the stalling seems to be more pronounced and consistent with the XEDE. Any idea why this would be the case?

Immediately after installing XEDE, I ran thru 3 gears (2.3.4) with a E46 M3 that was no problem prior to XEDE and I had a hard time keeping up. Needless to say I was shocked!!! I expected to put cars on it but only began catching up in 4th gear. Not one to jump to comclusions and understanding that seat-of-the-pants impressions are notoriously unreliable, I hit BatlGround Engineering to see what the dyno had to say.

Batkground's AWD dynojet recorded a three-run best of 295hp/263TQ. I'm no dyno expert and I concede that my tuning knowledge/experence is limited but I expected a stage 1+ with XEDE and Xede flash, intake, no cat running on 93 octane would do better on a "dynojet".

Any thoughts... Is my number typical without custom tune? The car really does not feel stronger in first, second, or third gear. It actually feels weaker than it did prior to XEDE. My subjective perception of speed here could be skewed because the car is not as peaky as it was prior to XEDE. Does this make sense? 4th gear does feel noticeably stronger though.

Overall, at this time, I'm a little dissapointed with the performance but a custom tune could make a world of difference. Fortunately, I am signed up for the Atlanta Vishnu/dyno4mance April tunathlon. I guess we'll see what difference that makes...

If anyone has any relevant input that might help make sense of this feel free to chime in--even if it is to say that my expectations were simply too high.

Later...

Get rid of your cone filter and go back to stock air box. That should fix it, good luck.

Hmm are we sure you are timed right? Only stalling issue is with air leaks in the intake path and improper timing when installing cams and gears. I would have Andrew check it out before the dynoday. The guys with just DPs and Xedes are putting down in the 290s on the dynojet at tuning tech, dont know what the stage 1+s are doing on pumpgas though.

Well, Andrew installed the cams and gears a few weeks ago. He did a really good job and he's pretty thorough with his work so I would guess the timing is probably right.

I've not got a chance to talk to him yet. I will be calling the shop tomorrow though. How about the map that is loaded in the XEDE? Is there a way that I can confirm that it is the right map for my mods?

Yes but you will need to open it up and view the maps

Thanks. I seriously doubt that all the issues stem from my "GAY INTAKE." Pretty funny though!

Seriously I would pull the intake. Check to see if the MR diverter valve is installed correctly. It is easy to put in backwards. If that does not work put the stock diverter valve back in and try that.

The intake is not going to produce much, if any power, anyways.

I absolutely agree with Ericgj. Intake and diverter valve are the most likely culprits. Of course, check for any typical stuff like disconnected lines...
