methanol/alcohol injection
methanol/alcohol injection
So, what is the consensus on methanol/alcohol injection? I have noticed some nice numbers from EVO’s with basically stage 1+ on methanol injection. Do most people prefer meth/alcy to race gas or vice-versa? What does Vishnu think of Meth/Alcy injection? Is it better to run injection or just straight race gas? Pros/cons?
If I were to get the AMS kit, does it work well with the XEDE? I make 307whp on a DD dyno, what could I expect with 100% meth injection? Sorry for all the questions!
I would like everyone’s feedback if possible.
Thanks!

I am holding my breath to see how these methanol projects fare in the longer-term, with regard to corrosion of parts that are in constant contact with the methanol.
Can't deny its effectiveness but doesn't seem like a convenient daily driving power adder.
There's also the matter of flammability of alcohol-heavy dilutions ...

Whether you mix a 'lil h2o' in or not, it does not change the properties of the alcohol. FWIW however, others with considerable time using meth have not reported significant degradation.
Running methanol injection and race fuel seems redundant, since race fuel (e.g. 110 oct) has a greater octane rating than methanol. After all, it seemingly makes little sense to taper delivery of 110 oct fuel in favor of ~100 oct.
Methanol injection is a strategy to be used in lieu of race fuel. If one is running race fuel, he shouldn't need the injection.

When I was running a 50/50 mix of methanol and distilled water on my Eagle Talon, I was getting a white residue on the throttle body and on the inside of the aluminum intake manifold. I would surely bet that a high concentration of methanol would cause some sort of corrosion. There is no doubt that the methanol mixture made some good power, but I will be experimenting with pure distilled water for now. So far my EVO has been doing great running a modified Stage 1 93 octane map on 91 octane.
