Xmap upload help and troubles(updated).

I went ahead and followed the directions for the xede install. Everything is in place. proper boost control wire is removed and replaced with female terminated wire from xede harness. Went ahead and bought a Serial to USB adaptor from radioshack. I haven't installed any of the power mods on the car and my xede came with a 93 stage 1 map. I need to install the subzero 93 map. When the car is idling the xede light is green. when on it is flashing red. A few times the car hadn't started when connected to the laptop. I did change the Com settings from Com6 to com1. The driver for the usb adaptor is installed. However when I open up the subzero map, it will not talk to the xede. Please help. I searched and can't find anything else to try.

Ok well I have an update, but its not a good one.

Well after trying 3 different laptops(2 dells and my thinkpadR51) I finally got the xede talking with my thinkpad. It finally connected and I was pretty happy. Went ahead and uploaded the map which was successful the first time. I then removed the boost restrictor pill. Started the car, no luck. Took the key out and checked all the wires and the boost line I had unplugged to remove the pill, everything was in order. I started it again, no luck again. Tried again and it did start, but Idle was very poor and had to open throttle partially to keep it from stalling. Pulled the car out of the driveway(downsloping hill so it rolled), and put it into first in the street, and there wasn't any throttle response. I shut off the car while it was in the street and checked everything and was baffled since everything was as it was supposed to be. Restarted the car but had to push the gas pedal almost to the floor to get it going in first, the rpms would not go past 1200rpm even then. Car dies after ten feet, it starts but will not maintain idle even when the gas pedal is pushed. Had my girlfirend bring a flashlight so I could uninstall the xede and put everything in place. However I was so worried when I first got out of the car, there was a strong burning smell. After the uninstall, I reconnected the stock boost wire and reconnected the stock connector. I started the car, and it seemed fine like normal, no service engine soon light anynmore. So I finally pulled the car into the garage and reinstalled the boost restrictor pill. Took the car out for a driveway and it seems fine, no boost leak, just as it was before. I am pretty relieved but I will try to get a compression and leak down test to see if any damage was done. Even more I am dissapointed and frustrated with the xede but even more I am apprehensive about putting it back in.

The reason I bought this unit was because of the service, ease of use of unit and interface, and ease of install. $995 is alot to pay for a piggy back, especially for a poor medical student like myself, but I was happy in knowing that I had a good product. I had confidence in my decision even though after the sale I had some delivery f-ups. I was misinformed about my delivery twice(first when I ordered when I was told it would be delivered the next day and then when I called to inquire about delivery a week later at which point I was told it was to be sent out the next day) and having to pay extra to get it delivered garaunteed next day. I was still convinced at that point about my decision to choose the xede since I was sure it was a good product as well as based on Shiv's reputation. However I am not sure anymore regarding the product, and am very frustrated considering that this unit has not been able to live up to my expectations. Considering the amount paid, I don't think I should have to compromise on my expectations.

I'm sorry if this seems like a bashing, I'm sure there are many owners who are happy with their xedes, I'm just writing based on my personal experience with the unit.

I was experiencing the same problems that you were having. After I installed my xede I was having some major idling problems. It turned out I had the wrong boost wire, after correcting the problem and checking the other wire I still had some idling problems. Checked my connections again and it seemed I left some electrical tape on the other wire. Clean it off and everything seemed to work fine. I did get some black smoke the first time I started it, I think I had some injector loading when I had the wrong wire connected, but now the cars runs great, a lot better then stock.

EDIT:On another note check your ground. If you xede is not grounded correctly you will have problems talking to the xede.

It is the boost control wire shown in Shivs directions. It is, I've checked it about 10 times this weekend. Well unless his directions are wrong.

The ground was correctly placed and secured tightly, directly against the metal and in the location shown in Shivs directions.

as far as idling issues, this wasn't a rough idle, it was unstable and not willing to stay on unless the gas pedal was pressed quite a bit. and it did not have power to get out of first or above 1200rpm in first while the car was floored, had to stumble it back around 7mph back to my house this way.

No black smoke, just a strong burning smell.

your map may have not uploaded correctly. Did you burn it to rom? I was having the same idling problems. It wasn't able to idle unless I gave it some gas.

yes, I was prompted to burn to eeprom and then I confirmed.

Well, if I send this xede back to vishnu, with the supplied harness and serial cable, will I be able to get a refund??

Damn! I just made a long post and lost it. So here it goes again kinda...

The most likely reason you are having issues, is that you are trying to import a v2 map without following all of the steps. The xede is intaking Frq imputs, while still looking for AN imputs. The way to fix this is very simple. Also, make sure that you are using the newest Xmap that is on our website. Be back in a sec with some links for you.

So are you saying that since I recieved my xede last weekend, its working on V3 and I'm uploading V2 maps? So if I have to convert V2 maps to V3?

Or did you send me a v2 xede which I need to convert to V3 and I have to update that and the maps also?

Well the steps which I followed didn't make alot of sense, it said to use xupdate, while there was no xupdate on the vishnu site and member erioshi, had said to just upload the map using the xede map ctrl+u. The directions you just provided were not shipped with the xede, nor was there any literature stating that I had to update the xede before installing.

The Xede is already updated. So you can forego the updating part. However, when uploading V2 maps, they must be uploaded in the mannor stated in the write up. The maps on the website are v2 maps, which is why we have been preloading every single xede that leaves our shop. We will have the v3 maps up very soon, at which point the uploading of new maps will be the normal way, without having to import the old maps. So follow the steps in the write up, and you shouldnt have any problems.

If you need help, please let me know.
