Post Sell me on the Xede

I am planning on getting an xede w/ the smart chip, But.... If someone could explain a little more what it means for me.

I mean from what I understand, the SMART chip is kinda a dynamic tuning right?

it does timing, air fuel al that....

so is the this combo better then an AEM system?

can someone explain the pros and cons to both (assuming I have someone to tune the AEM)

thanks

with the xede you retain your stock ecu...so when inspection time comes around you're still good. well here in tx i passed with a test pipe since there isn't emissions on obd2 cars they just make sure all systems are go through the port. AEM and other standalones remove obd.

huh.... i dont think NV is any more restrictive... but is that the only thing is really for inspection reasons.

I hear people say alot about that, but I've never heard anything about that locally.

no that's not the only reason. 20x20 mapping and ability to switch between a race and pump map with a toggle using the 2 banks. with the release of smart you won't have to worry about atmospheric conditions anymore.

Xede gives you a back-up knock sensor over 6700 rpm when the stock sensor ceases to work becase of engine noise. It's a nice little extra insurance that can keep your engine intact. I don't think any other system has this feature

The SMART system sniffs the exhaust with a wideband o2 sensor, using the Xede to tell the ECU if the car is running to rich or too lean before the ECU has to step in and take larger power robbing steps. It refines timing, boost, and fuel mixture.

Under real world conditions the car drives more smoothly and under extreme conditions creates more power more reliably.

In essence it tunes your car while you drive and leaves less hp on the table.

The thing I like about this system is once in place, you don't have to mess with it uless you change fuels. Then it just requires a flip of a switch or unplugging a wire to change maps.

I hope that helps.

I felt a bigger gain going from stock to Xede than I did going to a TBE.

Seriously the Xede on a stock evo is worth at least 30 HP.

You can also get that with any other tuning platform as the XEDE doesn't mechanically add anything to change VE. The Smart software is what sold me on the Xede. Coupled with the fact that I was getting horrible gas milage, idle and other small annoyances with the standalone. You basically get almost all the benefits of a standalone with none of the headache.

I switched from a Power FC full standalone and took a huge hit in the pocket book to go back to the stock ECU, then purchased an XEDE and the Smart package. I still haven't installed the Vishnu items but, the stock stuff is SOOO much smoother than the standalone that its almost worth it already.

Don't take my word for it, cuz I haven't installed the Vishnu products yet.

well I forgot to add, I will be running an AMS turbo kit also.

so around 400whp probably,
I have a shop here that is telling me to do AEM but it is more money and I dont konw if it is any better.

does the SMART chip detect your driving style and adjust on the fly... meaning you get better gas mileage when your crusing and when your driving harder it leans it out???

does it do that?

The SMART system adjusts timing, fuel, and boost on the fly. If you are cruising around town or on the highway in vacuum you won't go into these maps (or at least the load is so low on the engine that the maps are zeroed out). However, with bigger injectors and a Walbro fuel pump, my car gets better gas mileage on the highway now. At least 10 more miles per tank, if not more.
