because 40 dollars isn't worth the liability.

no we have been fortunate and carefull so we have been incident free since the day we opened. the problem is the industry as a whole has some questionable shops which raise the insurance rates for the rest of us. when you consider the dyno itself cost close to 80,000 dollars installed and the accompanying costs which are required to operate it, 40 dollars doesn't make much sense. as a business you would be better off doing low risk jobs at $70 per hour than a risky dyno pull for 40.

Everytime I have got any form of dyno tuning I have had to sign a waiver of liability form. What are you worried about?

He's worried about the guy who signs the liability form, blows up his car, then says that's not my signature, fix my car.

Or the guy who doesn't have any money and wouldn't pay $70, but has $40, blows up his car and makes a mess of the dyno.

Or $40 will pull in way to much work for them but $70 keeps the pace of business just right; They're dialing in the "marginal propensity to consume" and they can supply demand.

Or put more simply, $40 isn't worth the hassle.

What he is saying is that $40 bucks isn't worth it for all the labor of handling the financial transaction, having the customer sign a waiver, pulling the car in, taking off the cam gear cover to get a good tach signal, strapping a car on the dyno, doing the pulls, printing the dyno sheet, pulling the car out of the shop.

Next, the liability issue comes is not for the car, it is for the customer. Customer's walk into cars on lifts, slip on floors that have a little coolant spilled there, can steal, fight other customers, can make long distance calls on shop phones, etc. X 10. Hell, an engine can blow up on a dyno and send debris into the crowd. That is the liability issue that shop owners have to consider.

$40 bucks isn't enough.

So it is more economic as opposed to legal. That makes much more sense.

Anyone else going?

don't get me wrong i would love to have a dyno day for a cheap price, but there is just too much that goes into making a dyno day happen and that makes it difficult to do for a small return/potential headaches.
