i was just wondering if you can advance the timing in the map down low for better drivability and also to help get rid of some of the lag?

if you can, how much can you advance without the stock ecu rejecting the settings?

We do this with the smart system. However, You never want to advance the map unless you have some sort of fast protection against knock. If you try adding advance in on the factory knock sensor, the car will knock in transients, and in fact feel more laggy after shifts.

This is actually one of the most compelling reasons for creating the smart system.

even in the lower load levels? like 5 and 10%? i am thinking more for daily driving, but was curious about the spool-up help as well...

also, with the xede, can't you datalog to detect knock?

i am still trying to figure out the xede, as i just bought the car and it already had this installed...thanks for the input dustin

i tried that to smooth a little dip (by advancing timing) on the dyno graph and all i got was a misfire. is that supposed to happen dustin ?

Dustin,

Does V3 have the knock sensor control like v2 had? I know its not a map in v3, but is it hidden somewhere. I think i lost a little bit of power, so i wanna try to troubleshooot it.

If we can't manipulate the sensor a little in v3, i might need to swap back.

thanks,

Jeff

I am running the stage 0 plus. I kept my fuel curve normal but zero'd out my timing even for pump gas (93 octane). When reading overall engine timing its basically the same it aways was except up top where I get one degree of additional timing. I rarely if ever see timing getting pulled.

I have no way to read knock. The stock knock sensor just doesn't carry enough juice to allow me to monitor it. But you can watch you timing. Be advised timing changes depending upon coolant temps, intake temps, and airflow.

We do it above 10%. Some cars like a bit more advance at idle, but most don't, so we just stay away from the 5% range. If you wanted to do something like this, you will need the smart system, simply because doing this can cause you to run into knock after shifts generally. With the smart system, you can run the extra advance, yet still keep the knock levels in check under certain conditions.

It is on all v3 maps already. If yours doesnt have it, it may be hidding off the page.
