Why yes I do have an opinion.

It is worth it unless you have access to tune your car all the time. I love it. It smooths out the power delivery and runs great. I have talked to others that felt like the smart was fighting switching between maps to adjust and had some hesitation. I haven't felt that too much. I am stoked about the part throttle and the the off throttle response.

The WOT seems to be smoothed out a bit but still gets it!

I purchased it tried it and sold it. I was what you would call a vishnu beta tester because they didn't have their crap together when the first batch was shipped.

I'm sure it will provide some gains but to me it seemed more reactive than proactive. I mean if you add timing to the point where you see knock thats not good. If you increase boost to the point where you need a Creader to clear codes the ECU is throwing thats not good. If you are relying on a wideband O2 to tune your AFR and the things calibration gets hosed thats not good.

I logged my timing and AFR with the standard xede stage load and it was a safe 10.5:1 AFR. I made changes to the fuel table to run an 11.0:1 AFR on pump and 12.0:1 on race gas. Then I tried the SMART and logged things. It really didn't make much of a difference. In my mind a backyard custom tune with a wideband is just as good as reactive SMART.

Anyway ... in the end I just sold all that stuff and purchased an better WB to use for tuning and monitoring. I am much happier with this configuration.

I dont really see a question....just an opinion.

My opinion on the other hand is far different. While at the track this weekend I did a sub 2 min laptime at infineon. This was on a 73 dollar 235 tire from tire rack, built for mud and snow, and my pump gas smart map. Granted, I am not the best driver in the world, but my smart equipt car was quick enough to stay right with leif. Leif was on 255 RA-1s, and a non-smart pump gas map. With that said, I think that with smart, leif would be able to break sub 1.55s, and as driver skill goes up for both leif and I, we both should be able to dip into sub 1.50s.

I should add some more info to my reply.....as weather changes my tune needs to change as well. I dont have a problem manually loading a new map when there is a significant change in the weather. Not sure if SMART can handle a temp change of 40 degrees or not. I know my boost definately needed adjusting when temps went from 80 to 40.

SMART is designed for smart people that will spend less time tuning (and repairing) their Evo and more time driving it. If you have the skills and enjoy the thrill of tuning and repair, SMART is not for you.
