Next Mod - Need Guidance
Currently running a 3" TBE exhaust, cam gears (-4/-4), and lower IC piping. Have the Walbro pump, ready to install closer to the South dyno day weekend in Nov.
I want to make one or more modifications prior to the dyno day, so that the tune I get will last me at least another monthy
.
Option 1) 10.5 hotside, plus 02 housing.
Option 2) Cams- 264 in./272 ex.
Option 3) Option 1 and 2 combined.
What I don't want.... is to do either option, or both, and then worry about injector duty, spark quality, etc.
I want a setup than I can run everyday on 93 octane, with no boost gauge, EGT gauge, etc. Stealth, yet resonably reliable with no constant "tweaking" to make sure it doesn't blow up.
Vishnu, I'd like your input particularly. since you'll be doing the tune in less than a month!

Do both! It'll be perfectly reliable, you won't have to worry 'bout your injectors or anything. I wouldn't go with an o2 housing though, as it never really showed much of a gain and the aftermarket ones don't have a bracket that mounts to the block, well I haven't seen one that does yet. Without that, it's just going to put more stress on the exh. manifold as it will have to support the full weight of the turbo, 02, and exhaust. I say do the cams and the hotside, save the rest. You'll be quite pleased.
with the addition of cams and a tune, you will in essence have our stage 1+ (v390) package. I take it that you are getting a custom flash for 93 octane when you come to the dyno day. Once this is all done, you will not need to get retuned, nor will you have to tweak your car for as long as you plan on driving it. My friends and i go to quite a few track days and we use the same tune on the street and on track days, and almost all of us have no extra gauges. A good tune is one that you dont have to think about and thats teh peace of mind you will have after teh dyno day. The 264/272 combo works really well, and maintains a fairly tame idle as well.
As far as additional mods are concerned, the 10.5 hotside is a fantastic mod for the price. We have seen great gains with just this addition alone, and it is one of the main reasons that the 05s are faster than the 03-04s. If you want to maximize the output of the stock turbo, then the 10.5 is a must. This is otherwise known as the stage 1++.
