Fuel Cut - reflash? or update Xede?

I read some posts in the various forums and it looks like you have to reflash your ECU to remove the fuel cut when an overboost is seen by the ECU. I am seeing overboost codes in the colder weather lately (36 to 40 degrees).

I wanted to know can I make a change to my Xede maps for this problem? or do I have to have the ECU reflashed....even though I have an Xede?

Wondering....

If you are seeing over 23-24psi of boost, you are hitting fuel cut. You can either:

1) Drop your boost to 21-22psi peak and keep on trucking.

or

2) Get your ECU XEDEflashed for $100. This involves sending it in to us. This will raise your boost cut several psi so you will no longer bump into it. We still don't recommend running more than 23psi of peak boost unless, perhaps, you have a custom tuned map.

I don't have my boost gauge installed yet, but it happens around 3500 rpm when I am in 3rd or 4th gear....usually when its cold...

I am using the map you had sent me back a few months. I have not tweaked it at all...so as long as your map doesn't call for higher boost...I would think I am not hitting that high of psi. I think its more of a spike being caused from the extra load of trying to go faster in those gears.

If I just unplug the Xede...do I have to put the car back to stock completely? I am not sure what happens with the restricter pill missing and the green boost wire not being in the stock ECU.

Also, if I have the ECU reflashed for that, can you check to make sure I have the latest and greatest firmware? I have version 3, but I don't know if it is 3.2 compatible...I have been running the 3.0.9? map version.

sorry about my previous post "confused"...I see you mentioned ECU Xedeflashed...so you are talking about me taking my ECU out and sending that to you....not the Xede.

Yes that is what he is talking about. However what you can do in the meantime is open up your boost map and take 5% of the boost away from 3000-4500RPM. That should fix you right up.

I have the same problem....the colder air allows the car to flow more air. All you really need to do is lower your boost to stay around 21PSI. Its probably peaking at 23-24 now.

GET A BOOST GAUGE.

thanks, I'll try that. I have to get a Saturday free and get this boost gauge installed, plus the new spark plugs, wax it, etc. etc. etc.

If the factory MAP sensor only goes up to 1 bar, how does the ECU know when boost is in the 20's? Or is it the MAF sensor reading that is triggering the fuel cut? I guess my question is, what exactly is causing the fuel cut? I've been fighting the same problem for ages and it would be nice to know what's going on.

Is is it an airflow reading not boost?

Its the airflow the MAF reads. With cooler temps come higher boost and higher airflow.

If they MAF reads an airflow that is out of factory specs it assumes the WG actuator is broken and the car is unsafely overboosting. It cuts fuel as a safety mechanism.

Temps around me have been around 40. I am actually running a max of 94% boost just to keep it under 22PSI.

The more airflow enhancing mods you get the more often you will bump into the limit.
If you have cams and such you may even hit the limit under 23psi.
