Firmware update - Xede - not sure about wires
Got the day off today...and I am in the process of updating my firmware. Looking at the directions...looks like I have a wire in the pin 9 location on the black connector. I have a V3 Xede.
If I read correctly...I am to cut this wire on the black connector (my wire is brown) in pin 9 location.
Then, I need to locate a red wire for power. Should I be using the red wire in pin location 1 on the gray connector?
Just want to make sure before I go cutting stuff.

I see my mistake on the boot wire...I was counting the pin numbers wrong. So I have the purple wire. But where should I grab "power" from. Do I use the red wire from the gray connector?

If I run directly to the battery...won't that give me "juice" constantly....
according to the firmware upgrade instructions, it says to have the car in the "on" position, and after clicking "Yes" to the Firmware upload, shut the car off immediately and start it back up again.
I am assuming the turn off is to "reset" the Xede somehow...but if the power is constantly "ON" connected to the battery....that doesn't sound like it would work?
If anyone knows what "red" wire the instructions is referring to...that would help.
I appreciate the suggestion of the battery...but I am worried to hook directly to the battery for fear I might fry my Xede.

I finally I uderstand why are you talking about the red wire, you are looking at the firmware update that is included in the Smart Install. You can connect the purple wire to the red wire but then you have to strip the red wire a little bit in order to connect the purple wire, which another process of the smart install, which includes connecting the knock box wire to the red wire for power.
I used this to update my firmware:

I tried plugged into the cigarette lighter fuse, but that didn't seem to work. I guess I will try the battery instead...I kept getting a blinking light...so I know I wasn't in boot mode. This is a pain...
