finally getting it together and got some questions
finally getting it together and got some questions
I bought the xede with smart upgrade a few months ago. Since that time i have tried to get as much info on this as possible, but sometimes the info is conflicting ( yes it works with xxxxx..... no it doesnt work with xxxxx etc ) Even noticed that the same person says both sometimes. This is frustrating to say the least so i decided to get some answers myself, hoping that vishnu will post as will others who have the xede with smart to cut through some of the bs that is posted on this website.
Sometime in the coming weeks i will be installing all the parts/etc. Once installed i am trailering the car to get it tuned, as i have read that it isnt good to drive it with all parts listed without getting it tuned.
I bought the xede due to several reasons. It has the ability to control boost, fuel, timing, dual maps for pump and race gas, and logging ability. I am shooting for around 400whp on pump gas ( i KNOW that the stock turbo wont cut it for that hp level which is why i am building up to either a t67 or equivalent turbo). The end goal is a street car that will see a few passes at the track but mostly side by side comparative driving on the street.
Here is what i have so far....
Down pipe, test pipe, cat back exhaust, injen intake with upper pipe, fighter's garage licp ( all of these are on the car now)
hks cams and gears, walbro fuel pump, head studs, hks bov,lm-1 gauge, ( all waiting to go on as is the xede with smart )
I have been trying to do research to make sure that i have everything i will be needing for the install and to make the xede work properly.
Now for the questions....
I understand that i will need a new clutch at some point, but was wondering if the stocker is going to be able to hold the new setup for a while. i havent launched the car very often and it still feels like it did the day i drove the car home.
I was told by someone at vishnu and by the company that sold me the lm-1 gauge that this is the one i need. But i found several posts that say it is the wrong one and that i need the lc-1. Which is the correct one? Is there anything else i need to make this work with the xede?
I also know i need a reflash for the ecu but was wanting to know if i could install all the parts and get the flash at a later time. I was thinking of getting it flashed by the people who are going to tune the car.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and any help would be appreciated.

I have a couple thoughts based on my SMART experience as well as reading I have done.
The mods your are planning on installing soon are basically V390 with SMART. Until you step up to the bigger turbo you will not need to be custom tuned to drive the car as you can just load one of the standard maps from the Vishnu website. (BTW -- what cams are you getting?)
If you are planning on following the Vishnu path then there are a couple things you should consider. The first is to go back to the stock intake. You will find that you make no substantial gains with the Injen but you will definitely confuse the MAF sensor. There are a number 400whp Evos running around with the stock air box
. The other thing you will not need at all is the BOV. It may be something you will need to upgrade in the future but at this stage all it will just cause problems.
In regards to your questions:
1) The clutch should last just fine with V390 assuming you don’t abuse it. If you are going to do lots of launches then it is time to upgrade
2) How did you get SMART without the LC-1? The LC-1 is what ships with SMART. I believe the sensor is the same but the wiring will be different. You might be able to make the LM-1 work but it would be easier to use the recommended hardware.
3) Reflash? You shouldn’t need one unless you are not running a stock flash right now or did not mention that you are upgrading the injectors. The tuning is done by the Xede – this is the reason to buy it. It would be a good idea to get an XedeFlash at some point as it will remove possible fuel cut as it will raise the boost and rev limits – but this will not effect driving the car but just allow full functionality of the Xede.

Thank you for the reply and comments. I do appreciate it. Now let me see if i can fill in some of the holes i left out in the first post.
i am getting 272s. either way on the custom tune i figured it would only help out but was hoping the standard maps would do for now.
i know the stock airbox is good, but i wanted to get the intake so i could install the bov now. the stock bov leaks and i wanted to go ahead and get it out of the way now so i could concentrate on the next task at hand when it came time to upgrade the turbo. i dont have any plans on running vta, so the bov will be recirculated either way.
i figured as much on the clutch, but it is always good to get another opinion.
guess i need to try to elaborate more on this. i do have the lc-1. it has been a long week already with back to back 16 hour shifts included. what i want to do is run an a/f digital gauge with the ratio on the gauge instead of the flashing red/green lights around the edge of the gauge. i had one of the "flashing lights displays" on a previous car. i want to see a number on a gauge instead of christmas lights. which is neat to see the bouncing lights for awhile, but it gets old and annoying after that. sorry for any confusion that caused.
ok. i am not currently going to upgrade the injectors. mostly because the stockers seem to do ok. plus i was told i could monitor the duty cycle of the injectors with the xede to see if they were being pushed too hard.

1. Go back to stock intake
2. Go with the MR DV and not some riced out BOV.
3. Your stock clutch will hold just fine for roll-on racing. Stop light racing and stutter box launches will kill a stock clutch fairly quickly.
4. Stick with the stock turbo and injectors until you have all the bolt-ons completed and have become unhappy with race gas. A bigger turbo DEFINATELY takes alot of the enjoyment out of a daily driven EVO.
5. Call innovate and ask them what you can to keep the LC1 and hook up a digital gauge.
