Cam Gear settings - Question for Vishnu

I am ordering HKS adjustable cam gears and HKS 272 intake and 272 exhaust camshafts for my 2004 EVO. (plus the fuel pump upgrade)

1) Will the V390 map for 93 Octane on your website work for this setup?

2) What is the setting for the adjustable cam gears for a 272/272 setup?

The current mods are 3" Downpipe, 3" catback exhaust , 3" helix cat and Xede.

I would say yes to all. AMS set my 272's at -2/-2, and now with the 280's they are set at 0/0. I used the 93 octane map myself with these cams.

As far as settings you can always play around, take SuperHatch for expample he is running 272s and his settings are 0,-2. He makes good power. Here is an example

Also you can run -2/-2 or -3/-3, it just depends how your car reacts to the settings.
Also you can pm Ted B on this topic, he has done some testing as far as cam gear settings and he is very knowledgeable.

Actually the V390 on the website, will be fine for either setting. Of course a custom is always the best but it will not be much of a difference.

Yes a custom tune would be nice, but unfortunately Shiv is in California...and I am in Pittsburgh. I plan on driving up to Buschur in Ohio to have the cams installed and load the V390 map and get it dyno'ed.

That is like the Hatfield's and Mckoy's involved in a joint venture.

Why don't u drive to NJ, its probably closer when Shiv is going to have a Dyno Day at TurboTrix, it should be around April or May.

probably, but I would hope they would appreciate how well the car runs using the Xede.

I know locally when at a flashlight drags I raced two other EVO's and beat them by several car lengths. They had BOV, 3" exhaust mods, IC pipe mods, etc....and I basically only have changed my exhaust. So I am sold on how well the Xede performs.

If you click the "Xede support" link at the top of this page, then click "Mitsubishi Evolution", then scroll down and click the "V390" (it says Click for description right above it), it will take you here....................

Since different cam gear settings affect idle and such. Is there a standard for what works better for drag racing / top end?

Basically almost everyones says -4I/-1E keeps a 272'd car idle rock solid. Is there a known config that performs better up top but may cause the idle some grief?

Actually -4, -1 has the strongest top-end. If I were a drag racer that is what I would run. -3,-3 loses a few horsepower on the top-end (7-10 hp on stock turbo) but makes about 20-30 more hp in the midrange than -4, -1. Great for autocrossers or for faster boost response, but the idle is worse with -3,-3 than -4,-1. If you do a search there is a thread with dyno pulls of all setting on Andrews DD facility.
