Shiv: Completely OT ... Audi 2.0T question (gasp)

I noticed the "coming soon" section on the Vishnu site for, what seems to be, the Audi/VW 2.0T FSI engine. Care to clue me in at all? Dare I hope that the XEDE will be available for the 2.0T FSI?

I just got a call from someone who had his A4 2.0T flashed by APR and was really happy with it. Just curious to see what the Vishnu camp is up to... My wife's unsuspecting A3 awaits.

I'd be interested to see if the Xede could handle ME9 (IIRC) without pissing off the ECU. Its an unbelievably complex system with the ECU driving a whole host of systems other than the standard ones the Xede can control now.

Yeah, as it stands, the APR flash is ridiculous. For $600 I can allegedly go from 200 ft-lbs to 300 ft-lbs ...

^^ just remember, those are engine dyno numbers, not WHP. But still very tasty.

Oh yeah, thats just with a reflash too I am sure that the gains they have posted are legit. They usually take the raw numbers and subtract ~10% to make sure everybody gets at least the claimed gains. I know all the people at APR quite well...even did some work for them a few years back

If the new 2.0t engines are anything like the old Audi turbo engines, they are running much less boost in stock form than they can handle. I used to own a 2001 S4, and IIRC in stock form it ran ~7psi. The APR chips bumped that up to ~15, and the GIAC chips ran ~17.

From what I have seen they have a small turbo. With the flash on a DD dyno it spools really fast and produces good numbers low down. Unfortunately, due to the size of the turbo, it really falls flat in the top end.

Great for daily drivability and a great way to add power.
The direct port injection is really cool too

To follow up on this one, my fiance is getting a new DSG Gti that has the same engine. After she takes delivery this weekend she'll be heading up to a shop to get a flash from these guys:

They also have a reprogrammer available that you can use to adjust your tune. I'm quite eager to try that fancy dual clutch gearbox on a track or New Mexico backroad.

How strong is the DSG transmission? I know the CVT trans chain would fall apart after the mid 200s for torque.

My first question too. They use wet, automatic-type clutches rather than conventional dry ones like in an evo. I don't understand the mechanics of it very well, but apparently they don't suffer damage from slipping. Several tuners claim that reliability is just fine up to about 300 ft.lb of torque which is quite a bit more than I will see on 91 octane.

However this very problem is what is stalling developement of the R36 in europe. The small DSG transmission just can't handle the torque and the big one (A6/A8 i think) can't fit in the MkV engine bay.

No, VW/audi went back to 16v engines with FSI. The injector sits directly between the two intake valves where the third intake valve used to be. I am dubious that they really got better flow rates from the 20v design anyway.

Revo also has a great flash for those engines....They were doing some testing on an Audi A3 the other day on our dyno and it seemed to make great mid range power and torque..
I know it is cheaper than $600 bucks also
FWIW the stock turbos are very small on the VAG products so top end power is always a bit more difficult to find
