Review: XEDEFlash

Okay so I took the plunge and sent my ECU in for the XEDEFLash.

Why? Well I really didn't want to spend the $100 on something I didn't need but after serveral tiny issues that really pissed me off I decided it was worth a try.

Issues?

1. While cruising in 5th gear on the highway at 75mph and attempting to accelerate and pass another car even at partial boost I would get what felt like MAF CUT (FUEL CUT). Even at lower boost levels the car would cut out and kill power.

2. When temps dropped at night and I would often run into MAF/BOOST/FUEL cut during WOT driving.

These two things alone really drove me nuts. I never knew if I would hit fuel cut during a race and I always had to down shift into fourth on the freeway.

I am happy to say after a week of testing XEDEFlash has fixed both problems. I just thought I would spread the word because I see alot of you posting about boost cut and whatnot. It truely is worth the benny to have a solid performing car. Thanks Vishnu!

Sorry for my ignorance.. Boost cut is common on the Xede? Will there be any improvements on this for the IX xede or more of the same?

Boost cut is not something that directly relates to the XEDE. The boost and fuel cut that most people hit are the factory settings on the stock ECU. When you tune your car to run more boost/timing, etc, you will eventually hit both boost and fuel cut on the stock ECU (doesn't matter what kind of piggyback you use). The XEDEflash raises both limits and bumps up your redline to ~7800rpms.

Unless you have larger injectors.

Will these limits be hit with just an Xede and TBE?

Which is 3.5 X the money. Then you must pull fuel out to nullify the the effect of the hack. If you need the extra fuel thats fine but to get around a simple program limit its a bit extreme

It depends on how much boost you run and how high your airflow is.

This is common with all EVO's just do a search for boost cut, fuel cut, or maf cut.

Thankfully, Vishnu offers a fix for a measly $100.

I am very happy I got the XEDEFlash.

Ugh sorry reread my post and it didnt sound very nice. Obviously its a mod for people that know it will trick the ecu and are prolly planning future upgrades that will use the injectors. I never feel SAFC or othe fuel computers are the right option on pump gas cars. Its just too inconsistant and more like rounding the edges and not utilizing the features of a modern EM system. On race gas at the strip they are fine and make good power but for a pump gas car I really think its "rough" tuning. I see you have an ECU+ I havent used one of those so I dont know if my post even makes sense.

I'm just planning on running the standard Vishnu map. I think it hits 22psi peak? The point in doing the Xede was so that I wouldn't have the 3+ days of downtime. If I am going to have to flash the ECU anyway it defeats the purpose.

I didn't need the Xede flash until I upgraded to cams.

If you are ever close to Vishnu or at a dyno day they can flash it for you without pulling the ECU -- no down time

Good to know. I don't plan on touching the cams. I wish I was close to vishnu but I'm a good 6-7 hours away.
