Tales from a V2 to V3.2 upgrade!
wow. did this saturday. thought i was prepared. i had everything on my laptop (or so i thought; instructions, software, maps, etc.). move my wire like the sticky says and ran it to the battery. i do mobile audio/video and alarm/remote start installs for a job so i know what i'm diong with electronics and cars so no probs with that part.
go to start the update process. com port error on the laptop. no biggie. i had my hotsync on from a datalog. next. try again. won't get past the reset to boot mode message. turns out apparently you can only use xmap 3.0 to upgrade firmware and not 3.2. wish that was in the instructions and not just in a thread i read after getting the problem. so now i'm on my way i think. wrong. i try uploading the firmware. checksum error. now i know what that is cause i write computer software too, but i have no clue as to why it came up there. all i know is that it erased my v2 firmware but didn't upload my v3.
so now i have nothing on my xede and i'm getting aggravated. apparently the reason was you had to go from +12v switched to off to engine running in a minute amount of time! the instructions should say that! they didn't say you have to turn off the ignition. just to have it on, click upload, then start the car. i found this little tidbit in the forums (thank god for these forums though!). so then the map uploading went as usual. smooth. i think that sticky needs to be updated!
all and all the v3.2 is good. i do wish that someone would also make a not that if you are planning to datalog a wideband (or anything else with an analog 0-5v output), then you need to put that pin back since apparently this is the AN1 input (purple wire) that we remove. happy modding!
