I'm not try to tease. We got an interesting legal threat from another tuner regarding publishing ROM files on-line. We just want to do a little more homework on intellectual properly before we do this

I guess it should be obvious, however drama around here comes not just from out in the open, but spattered all over behind the scenes. Those who are the biggest pain are not always those who are in the limelight.

Posting up competitor tuner's ROM file, no matter the intent, is a filthy, underhanded thing for one tuner to do to another. I hope no one would do that.
If a customer decided to do that on his own to illustrate the differences between methods of different tuners, that would be fine because he has paid for both tunes and is an owner of both.
As for free access to ROM editors - it will not hurt any reflash tuning business. AEMPRO is free software available to anyone to tune your AEM EMS. The vast majority of EMS owners might mess around with rev-limiters and such, but still pay for tuning because the average person does not have the knowledge to safely or effectively tune their car.
Engine rebuilding services will probably go up, though, as people think they know how to tune and blow up their engines. Good for the guys who do more than just tune, bad for the consumer.

Looks awesome. Take a look at the Honda scene. They have free ECU flashing apps over there and people still pay good money to have professionals tune their vehicles. Giving someone the tools necessary does not evaporate business and lets the "hands on" guys have a lot of fun as well.
