Power Loss ?

Loss of power?

I went to the drags today, expecting to hit close to the 12.1 in the ¼ mile since I upgraded from the V330 Vishnu mods to now I am at the V390 mods. Something is wrong with the car.

See my ¼ mile times. The first one is with V330 mods from last October, the last 3 are with the V390 mods.

Date RT 60ft 330 1/8 1/8mph 1000ft 1/4mile mph
10/2005 0.2500 1.7970 5.2660 8.1760 86.45 10.7210 12.8700 107.00
4/9/2006 0.2750 1.8960 8.3750 83.21 10.9070 13.0120 107.25
4/9/2006 0.2700 1.8270 8.1930 84.40 10.7130 12.8250 106.79
4/9/2006 0.1710 1.8150 5.2470 8.1260 82.25 10.6200 12.7350 106.04

I noticed on my drive home (about 35 miles traveling distance), that the car’s boost was jumpy. If I was in second or third gear and went about half way WOT, the car’s RPM would jump 1500 to 2000 RPM, but the car had a noticeable delay in going forward. It reminded me of a slipping transmission…but acted more like really bad turbo lag.

I am still on the stock clutch with 13,500 miles on the car. Is my clutch starting to go? Is that one of the signs? I can shift very easily, so no problems shifting.

Or do I have a boost leak?

My times at the track should have been closer to 12.1 and the mph should have at least been 113 mph or more.

Any ideas or what I should be looking for to see what the problem is?

Your clutch is starting to say good bye.

Could you smell it?

sounds like the classic symptoms of a toasted stock clutch. Agree with /\ /\

I didn't smell it at the track today like I used to last year on launches..but when I got home and was sitting in the garage I could smell it.

I always thought the clutch was only used to help you shift gears...I didn't think once you were in gear that that clutch was still being used. If the clutch is slipping...then that could be the reason my 1/4 mile and mph aren't what they should be..?

No the clutch is in contact with the flywheel during "in gear driving" It sounds like your clutch is slipping. It doesnt take too many of those 1.7 60' times to do it at the v 390 power either.

If you have a slipping clutch.....you are definately losing power during the run.

The clutch is a BIG job and you have to select a clutch that best fits you driving needs.

Just for laughs how many hard launches did you get out of the stocker?

Hard launches...you mean anything that was 1.8 or faster? I would say probably 15 runs at the track...and about 20 or so on the road pulling onto to entrance ramps to the turnpike...you know you have to get up some speed with those trucks bearing down on you
