Dyno Tales: Lotus Elise turbo

LIke a bonehead, I left the dyno graph files at the shop. But, at 8psi of boost, we had it tuned to put down 230whp. Tuned by XEDE on 91oct. That's stock EVO 9 power to the wheels in a car that weighs 2000lbs

which kit was it? my bro in law has been looking at the haas kit. i tell ya, 230 wph in that car, on a d&d dyno, would be just sick! oh, by the way shiv, my bro in law is awaiting your release of the xede for the elise. i assume you posted in elise talk.

Not bad but the issue here is that the compresion ratio from factory on those cars are already very high limiting the amount of boost.

Another factor is that the turbokit that I have seen for those cars are directly related to custom T-25 and T-28s which we already know they are not famous for high HP numbers.

Third factor is the traction, with that engine layout, tiniy weight, minor drivetrain losses and instant power I can see a big issue trying to keep that little devil on the road, a tire/rims packege is highly suggested..

What kind of torque are talking about here Shiv?

Thanks!!

Carlos

that car ran an 11.8 with only 200 whp on 91. so it can hook up a little bit.

How funny. I just bought an EVO IX MR and was looking through the old Vishnu posts because Shiv tuned an Xede on my Turbo Lotus Elise after the Unichip (which came with the Turbo kit) started having major problems. The Turbo Elise he is referring to is my car.

One of the posts above discussed traction as a possible concern. On my car, this is not the case. The mid engine layout creates rear wheel weight bias that helps traction. Plus, the Advan A048s are very sticky. I can spool the car up to 4000 RPM, dump the clutch, and launch without even a chirp from the rear tires. The car just starts to pull, and then explodes when the 6200 RPM cam changeover hits.

The Lotus is way faster than my IX MR (not meant as a knock on the Evo). Hopefully the V400 package that I am having installed in 3 weeks will reduce the speed gap.

I gave my wife my 03 Dinan M3. I was in the Lotus today and happened to sneak up next to her in the M3 while we were both on our way home (how she didn't notice an Orange Lotus approaching from behind is a different story). She made the mistake of trying to drop gears and pull on me. The result was not pretty.

price is obviously not an issue on a Lotus nor should it be. there's nothing worse than reading about an evo owner who had poor results cuz he was "cheap"...
