The current issue of GRM features two of the of top SCCA autocross Evos. The article had John Tak's national championship winning ESP Evo, and mentioned his new BSP IX that was awaiting a custom tune from Shiv. They also wrote about Mark Daddio's SM Evo using a Vishnu XEDE. It now seems almost all the Evos at last year's championship use Vishnu
.
Hopefully some of the other Vishnu powered cars ,Navid, silencer and myself, can bring home some hardware from this year's championship in 2 months.

Did he sell that car (the red one)? I'm pretty sure that I ran out here in an early season divisional. It's VERY well setup. Of course, it's no longer legal for ESP. Originally Posted by SS RX7 r2

John's old car was sold, and the new owner is racing it in auto-X with his son. From what I hear, his kid is doing pretty well.

Interestingly, two of the former Showcase Evos are running around the country (primarily Southwest & CENDIV) in BSP against each other with the '04 just getting updated to some of the new parts by Showcase Mitsu. The '05 is doing well with it's new owners if they could just avoid cones.
As for our new '06 Project IX, it goes on the scales tomorrow and makes it's first showing this Sunday after lots of unfortunate waiting. Check for some results to come from the Topeka Divisional in a couple weeks. More significant improvements on the way, taking full advantage of that Shiv dyno tuning. Work continues on improving power to weight with a mix of handling improvements to boot.
Also, watch out for Silencer's car, I think we were successful in making it one of the quickest STU cars in the country with some recent testing.

Wow, the first Solo II outing for the Showcase Mitsubishi Evo IX absolutely exceeded expections. I'd say we're headed in the right direction with the newly modified suspension setup. BTW Shiv, the new Evo IX tune absolutely rocks!

Without a doubt, Vishnu has quietly moved to the top of the charts in autocross with excellent tuning and their work on the Ohlin's. Great job guys!

Mr. Tak,
You have now used both the custom tuned JICs and the revalved Ohlins. Could you describe the difference?

Smogrunner, here's a brief assessment of JICs vs Ohlins but hardly seems worth the comparo.
JICs (custom tuned by someone or not) are to me and I'm sure anyone else in the real know are a waste of money for competition. I'm sure there are those who will argue the case w/ me but I base my assessment based on the shock dyno and spring testing I've done with the stock shocks, JICs and Ohlins. I'd bet I have as much time as Paul Gerrard on the dyno, Evo suspension modeling and controlled testing, but surprising, we've yet to ever compare notes but I would respect his findings as well.
The Ohlins are based on high quality internals and rebuildable which is a great starting point. As a result, I have experimented with different controlled valving and over the past several seasons have developed my own custom direction so this isn't necessarily what Vishnu has settled on. My setup is solely based on modeling and optimizing for the unique demands of Solo II and running sticky 285s to generate phenomenal lateral and acceleration g's. But as important is the system view of the setup in concert with the swaybars, spring rates, ride height and tire/wheels. The end result of good shock valving is a body that responds quickly to the wheel motions and is not unsettled by surface irregularities due to a surprisingly compliant ride. The JICs would probably work for someone who relates harsh ride and twitchness with performance.
Hope that helps,
John......
