Shiv still around? (26psi on 91 octane?!?)

Just curious, because I tried calling the shop several times on different days and no one picked up. Left a message. Tried PMing him and no luck... My car keeps spiking to 26psi (hot or cold days/nights). Can't be good. After the tune with Shiv with that pill thing he put in the boost hose, I was boosting 23psi pretty steady for a while... but recently, starting like 2 weeks ago, my car started going up to 26psi consistantly. Any of you guys have any idea what to do while I'm waiting for Shiv to get back to me?? 26psi on 91 octane can't be too good considering I was tuned for 23psi. I dunno what changed and caused it to raise... I'm thinking about getting a MBC and installing it to lower the boost back down to 23psi though.

Interesting, what time of day are you calling? I am here all day, as is Calvin, and we haven't missed any calls. Also, I haven't received any PMs or emails, and I am listed on the website as technical. What type of boost gauge are you running?

Since you have a flash and not and Xede, then there is little we can do to help you. Is is the flash that is controlling your boost.

For now, do not go WOT and drive slowly. One option is to install an MBC to help you control the boost better if this becomes a chronic issue.

Also tell us your mods and check for boost leaks in your IC pipes and BOV.

Thanks for the reply, Dustin. I PM'd Shiv's account. I called the last few days around 1 or 2pm. I tried calling the number I origionally had and it says it's disconnected. Then I tried calling the number on your site, but no one picked up..? I'm pretty sure I had the right number because I left a message on the answering machine. No matter though. I'm using an Apexi EL mechanical gauge. I dont think it has too much to do with the reading, because for several weeks after the tune, I was boosting 23psi just fine, and just a couple weeks ago, i started to boost 26psi on the same gauge with no changes in the car (still using the same gas and have'nt added any mods to the car). The first week or so of it doing that, I brushed it off as nothing because it was happening on cold nights (I was trying not to boost during the day/daily driving), but I noticed when I quit trying to save gas, I noticed even on hot days, even 90 degree+ days, it would STILL boost 26psi. I doubt there's anything wrong with my gauge, as I've used it for a few years with no problems. Should I get a manual boost controller and turn it down? I noticed when it goes up that high, my whole car kinda lurks forward then backs off and sometimes it stutters a bit after going that high.

A buddy and I checked for leaks a couple weeks ago and found nothing. The bov seems to be fine. I dont think a leak would cause me to boost MORE though... would it?

Shiv is a busy guy, and unfortunetly even we can't even get a hold of him at times... but he pays us to help with problems like these. Try giving us a call, and in the off chance I don't catch your call, I'm pretty good at retuning calls on the answering machine ~_^

Your motor might be exploding soon if you don't get this issue remedied.

install a mbc until you can get back down there for vishnu to sort it out.

you might like the mbc, you can do it yourself & it may save you a trip too.

The reason I question the gauge is because it is fairly uncommon for boost pressure to raise if a mechanical malfunction occurs. Only a few issues normally cause this, and I have seen none of them associated with the evo. The first thing I would check is that all of your boost lines are tight, and installed correctly. The 2nd would be to check your boost with someone else's boost gauge.

As for the contact issue. In the future please PM or email myself or Calvin. Shiv is out of the office 65% of the time, and as I am sure everyone knows, no one likes answering work PMs late at night, after working all day long. And yes, we just changed phone services to get the toll free number, so a few of our extra line numbers changed.

yeah, but it leaks less than stock and that's why your boost goes up.

edit: Please educate me if i'm wrong

gotcha. I've already checked all the lines and they seem fine.. I'll check them again tonight. :/

I highly doubt it's the gauge, because my car acts funny after it boosts that high (stutters/lurks)

If it stutters, that is probably boost cut. So if we confirm that your boost is going that high, than something is going on with the wastegate lines, or the wastegate itself. Sudden changes don't occur, unless some sudden mechanical change occurs.

Check your boost pill, maybe some debris clogged it... IIRC a more restrictive boost pill = more boost.

The last PM I got from you was on July 3rd. And I responded to that. I'm about a week late on answering other PMs but none of them were from you. For weeks, I've seen you polling others for advice on this and other forums but I have yet to hear from you to arrange some sort of apppointment. All i have to do is to dail back the boost tables. Easy fix. Just find a time to come by and we'll make it happen. If the drives a bit too long for you, I'll be in Union City all day on Monday tuning cars at Full Function.
