BMW 335i Dynojet Results

Good news, bad news
My friend e-mailed this to me the other day about the new 335i TT...read the good and bad below:
Got to tear up the new BMW 335i twin turbos yesterday at Autobahn. We had a group out there

that PDI instructed and I did the lead/follows session with my group.
First, the good:
The car displays virtually no turbo lag. The acceleration feels on par with Janica's S4, it's extremely balanced on the track (I could not induce oversteer pushing them to about 8/10ths) and the stock brakes showed no fade whatsoever after a pretty hard 30 minute session. I must say, I was quite impressed. I was hitting 115 on the front straight of the north track. On top of all this, they have run flats on the car! Yes, run flats. With race rubber this car would rock! Very nice car. The backseat room is quite a bit larger than the previous model and of course the interior amenities are excellent.
Now, the bad news:
Each and every car overheated and shut down. Hmmmm, how's that? Yup! The oil temperature on every car shot to 300 degrees and the cars shut down. We learned that early on and instructed every driver to watch it closely. Driving amounted to about 5 hot laps, 2 parade laps, and so on. Never saw anything like it yet. Talk about a fatal flaw on these vehicles. Can't wait to see this happen to the general public and see how BMW responds. I guarantee you we were not pushing these so hard that no one will ever experience what we did. In fact, one of the ABCC members took a car home with him and on his ride in to the track, aggressively I might add, overheated it and shut down on him.
Every car has an achille's heal. I guess this is it.
One of my students blew chunks yesterday. I must say, that's an experience. No, he wasn't in my car but he was following me. He was doing real well too. Once we got off the track he pulled into the hot pit area, took off his helmet and blew all over the steering wheel, his shirt, pants and footwell. The guy must have eaten a lot for lunch.
Fun day!
Oh, and I bought another vehicle. More on that later.

Shiv, do you have the same problems dynoing the E90's as th E46 M3's?
I know getting the E46's into dyno mode is a real PITA....
Are you available today to help with this POS L****?

Two reasons.
1. We have had the DD on ice for a short while because of noise complaints, that we are currently working to address.
2. Instead of using the mustang dyno at full function, we figured it would be better to use a dynojet since that is what most of the BMW guys are used to. That is what 75% of BMW guys have used in the past, and that is what automobile magazine posted their results on. We wanted to be inline with that.

every should know like said above that all first bacth cars wil have some issues , just like the s54 with the rod bearings and so .
the manual does have a oil cooler, but the automatic does not i hear since it wont ve revved as high as with a manual.
im very interested to see , what kind of power they wil be able to extract from the car ....from here on out as i think it will be a***** to do so ..the turbos are tiny .the swap it self will be hard and there basicly no room for a single bigger turbo ....forget about two larger units.

The car doesnt look bad at all.. went back to look at it. The first time I saw it, I kinda of though it was plain.. then I saw it all fired up with the lights on and its hot!
Keeping your e46 and turbocharging sounds like a pita..mapping that car from scratch with forced induction is going to be such a hastle to get right.
also I find it funny when Shiv says he has the car running richer now making more power.. perhaps they leaned the car out so it met ca emissions?

theres soem horse power to be had , but the turbos are tiny on that car , and will get maxxed out very quickly . and swapping them will be difficult cuase for one theres very little room down there and the minifolds are basicly intgrated into the manifolds ..so it wont be no walk in the park after ur basic few mods.
nah FI my e46 wont be that difficult , HPF has allready a kti out there working on the tunning as we speak. i know the hardware is teh easy part , and tunning the ***** .one can have a custom kit built , then use a standalone like a tec 3 r ,to utilize vanos ,. and convert to regular throttle cable ,and u would be good to go, azevedo bros did it .

most of the people buying the 335 are not looking for pure performance, but looking for a nice looking, comfortable, DD that is decent fast. Car makes good power for street driving (1400-5000 rpm) and w/ a ecu and exhaust making close to 400 hp...thats just a plus!
I am trading my E46 M3 for the 335i for these reason to me it feels almost on par w/ my Dinan Stage 4 packaged M3. But handle is a different story though on the M.
Going FI on your E46 M3 will be a headache and will be costly! NO WARRANTY!

I'm wondering with all the overheating issues if BMW's oil service stands. What I mean is, does BMW think that with this car and the heat the turbos (and high compression ratio 6 cyl) make that the oil will last even close to 10K miles?!!!
