EVO Doesnt Like the EXDE!!! Tried Everything. HELP PLEASE!!!!
I have an 04 EVO that has had a EXED with Smart in my car for over a year. I had no problems with the exde till I had a 2.3 stroker motor installed. The EXDE was disconnected when the motor was installed because it was not working.
Well I went to tuning Technologies to get tuned yesterday and the EXDE was not operating properly. The light on the exde was staying soild green but the Exde could not get the car to ideal correctly. The ideal would go from 1k-2k rpm for no reason and than stall. The car would sometimes back fire. The car ran like crap with the exde
TT tried 3 different EXDEs. Same problem. TT installed brand new wiring harness, same issue with the ideal. TT tried bypassing the smart, same problem.
The car runs perfect with only the ECU at 12psi. Ideals great no backfires nothing. What could be the problem here.

I couldnt dyno my car the EXDE was not working. Im probably going to go with a custom ECU flash because of this EXDE problem. Im not going with AEM EMS or autronic because Im not pushing high numbers. I think its a waste of money with the setup I have on my car and the my plans with the car.

So the problem only started happening after you did a bunch of work to your motor? And you've tried 3 different xedes and had the same problem? Did you try different Xede harnesses as well? Perhaps it got damaged during all the work? If you tried different harnesses as well and got the same result, then I can assure you that absolutely nothing is wrong your XEDE hardware. Might want to look elsewhere. $20 I can fix it in 20 minutes if you drove it up here.
I wish i'd have known earlier as I was in Ventura for the past couple of days

TT tried a brand new harness, a brand new exde, and a good working exde. Same results. The original problem was the exde had the over temp issues and was sent to Vishnu. The car runs without any problems with the ECU, you plug the exde in, car will not idle correctly. The problem exits with the exde and my car.
when the new harness was installed the smart sytem was not installed. This elimated the possiblity that it was the smart system.

If the problem was elsewere I would have the same idling problem with the just the ecu plugged in.

Are you getting an rpm signal with the xede installed (using Xmap)? Is the problem only at idle? Does the car drive normally in other conditions?
Another thing to check is that the right green wire (boost control) was pulled from teh connector. The other green wire controls the idle control motor and will result in bad idle if pulled.

The EXDE has been on the car over a year. All the connections have been looked over and over again. Like I said before a new wiring harness was installed by TT. I would believe that TT was getting a rpm signal from the EXDE when my car was on the dyno. I did for the first time attempt to drive the car with the EXDE installed. The car drove very rough and stalled several times. With the EXDE installed the car has a very difficult time starting.
My car is not throwing any codes, the light on the exde is solid green.
