2-step tune for Exede?

For those of us with VIII's and no built-in 2-step, has anyone found or made a 2-step tune for the Exede?

I called Vishnu and they were unfamiliar with what I was asking for.

Any Exede users out there that figured out how to incorporate a 2-step launch control file?

Are you talking about the standing/launch rev limiter? Evo 8s do, in fact, have the secondary limiter. Just set it where you want.

The Xede can also provide a secondary limiter and no-lift shifting, but this is probably not what you want.

My 2003 most certainly does not have a 2-step on it. Unless for some reason the Exede tuning REMOVED that feature.

donour, how do you change the secondary rev limiter on your own? Do you need some kind of tuning software to do it? Or is it just something under the hood?

It does. It's just that the factory set the secondary limiter to like 7900 RPM, so it's not very useful because the primary limiter (7600) kicks in first.

Any reflasher should be able to do it. Ecuflash, Ecutek, etc. You need a windows laptop and a tractrix OpenPort cable.

cheers

Well so in other words, the stock 2-step launch controller is otherwise useless?

And so the Xede box behind my glovebox doesn't override that and give me a more usable rpm for the 2-step?

I isn't useful as currently configured, no. It's still there, but not set to something you want. Like I said, you can always have it set to the desired RPM. If you drive to my house, I'll do it for you in 2 minutes for free. However, that's 2500 mile drive. :-p Somebody local will probably do it if you ask around.

The Xede is a completely separate management unit. It sits between the ECU and the engine and controls fuel, timing, and boost. It has no effect on the rev limiters. There is a way rig up an additional limiter with the a spare Xede input, but it's cumbersome and won't really give you any advantage over the stock ECU.

D - thanks for all of that info. You were more helpful than the tech I spoke to at Vishnu!

Sounds like I'm going to find a tuner around my area and just remove the Xede system that is in my car. From what I read in the "Xede Resale Value" thread, well....

Thanks again Donour, and see ya later Vishnu.

Why? It's a very handy and easy device to tune. It's probably the best mod I've bought for my car.

^-- Really?

The impression I was getting was that it was an old system, and has been replaced by newer, more effective tuning systems. Even when I called Vishnu, they were less than enthusiastic about the Xede system, and didn't offer much info on how easily I could tune my car.

Car to share d?

As am I, I would really like to know if there is a way to change this using the xmap software. I really haven't tried to much on the xcede but would really like to change to 2-step position.

Please go back and read the whole thread. There are two launch limiters available.

One is provided by the stock ECU. The other is a no-lift-shift limiter in the Xede that requires special wiring.
