Help with plug and play harness

I am waiting for my xede to come, but before it gets here I want to get/build another harness for the boost control part, so that the whole thing is truly "plug and play", and I don't have to fool around with any extra wiring. I am trying to locate the wire harness connectors, but since I don't know much about this sort of thing, it is very hard to do. I called Vishnu, and they said they got the connectors from Tyco electronics, but unless you already know what you want, it is difficult for a newbie to get part numbers. Is anyone here able to supply this info, or point me in the right direction? Does anyone know the part numbers for the ones Vishnu uses (since the other ones may have similar numbers), or better yet, the part numbers for the ones I would need for this project? I think that once we get the connectors, the rest would be very easy, and could benefit all xede users. Any help would be appreciated...thanks in advance!

Just to let you know, you'll need to make a minimum order of, IIRC, 1000 pieces and wait 2-4 months before the extra connectors come.

Well, if they have to be purchased in bulk, Fields here I come! Just out of curiosity, though, why didn't you do this when you did the other part, Shiv? Was it cost prohibitive?

There's several "ECU harness" Threads on the forums.. I have all the part numbers, but Shiv is correct, most have some odd minimum requirements. I actually contacted AMP and they sent me samples, but never sent the pins for them.. For the record, the Fields harness is expensive if you just need some of the parts for what your doing.. But its great if you need a full extension harness. I have a spare just for that reason when I get my Xede or Utec (I have a shift light, and A/F gauge that would need to be wired into the harness if I removed my S-AFC and its current Field Harness)

Seems like too much work when the Field harness is readily available. I would also like to connect the ground wire for the boost control into the harness as well, so all I have to do is unplug the whole thing. Any idea how to do this? Shiv, is there a groung wire anywhere in the ecu harness I could use? Thanks a lot, can't wait to get this set up!

hmm this has me wondering...

Shiv, why wasn't your plug and play harness designed so that we didn't have to remove the boost wire from the stock ecu plug? or is that not possible for some reason?

It's certainly possible to do. When the harness gets revised, we'll probably end up adding another connector to it.

FWIW, boost control is a relatively new feature. Revising the whole board would have taken quite a bit of time and pushed back the release of the plug-in harness several months.

BTW, those who don't want to rely on the XEDEs boost control (and instead go with the factory boost control system) simply need not do the boost wire trick.

cheers,

Just out of curiousity if they go this route would they have to leave the brass restrictor pill in the boost line?

Shiv what's the failure mode of that boost control line getting loose or cut? Uncontrolled boost or no boost?

Uncontrolled (high) boost and an annoying, but welcome, fuel cut.

cheers,
