It's really hard to provide a fair and accurate answer since this would involve testing all the cam combos on the same car, on the same day, on the same tank of gas, etc,. But from what we've seen in CO and in CA, the 264/264 combo gives up about 10whp to the 264/272 combo at the top end but provides a slightly better idle quality. This is on cars with stock turbos, exhaust upgrades and proper engine controls. We haven't done any controlled testing with the 272/272 combo other than what's on our shop car. But 30psi, big turbo, c16, etc,. tends to make it an apples-to-oranges comparison when it comes to other cars
We should have some good data in January after the next east coast dyno day at AA.

is the best combination the 264/272 overall? , and are they any down falls on running this type of combo?. Or is as good as running 264/264 or 272/272
I dont plan to run a bigger turbo anytime soon, and just the upgrades to with , ecu tuning , turbo back exhaust and upgrade the FMIC .

Id go with the 264/272 also... we just dynoed my car with 264/264 and the results arent much different than stock cams with adj. gears set on 5* retard. Were gonna try retarding the 264's to see if it helps but otherwise the 264 exh will be coming out and it'll be replaced with a 272!
any one else wish to reply on this subject. I have yet to buy my cams. I either want 264/264 or 264/272. I am leaning toward the first. I have 3" turbo back, upper I/C pipe, and air filter. I also have the XEDE but it is not on the car yet. I dont know what other mods I will add other than clutch, brake pads, and maybe some rims.

FWIW, we've gotten 272/272 combos to idle nearly as well as stock through reflashing the stock ECU. I see no reason to do 264/264 combos anymore. My suggestion is to do the 264/272 if you want a nice stock-like idle or the 272/727 if you don't mind *slight* (and I mean slight) lumpiness.

hmm... I thought that it might be pausible to tune it to pass just for the test with the Xede and was wondering if you've done anything testing on your own. It's unlikely the Evo will be subjected to a load test on a dyno, unless they've approved an AWD dyno for smog checks. I guess that's one road i'll cross when the time comes. Just trying to get from having to swap cams.
p.s. If you happen to come up with good Xede maps for passing with various cam profiles this would be a good addition to the existing maps.

Definately something I'll work on given that the next door neighbors are emission testers. But, as of now, not much work has been done with respect to cams and emissions. Would be cool though

Thank me later for bringing this back from the dead
Shiv - Any updates to what you last said in January...other than the slight lumpiness in the idle. How much more power were u able to extract from the 272/272 than 264/272?
Also is a reflash still necessary? I may go with the 264/272 if it's easier tune with just the Xede and does not require a reflash.
Also keep me posted about your trip to Detroit. Once I know your schedule I'll call you to discuss all the options...thanks

I have the 272/272 cams and all I can say is that over the stock cams, these cams rock ***** from the word go! To hear a 4 banger with a slight lope is way cool too. In fact, in my opinion, without tuning the idle for the cams, the 272/272 cams aren't that indifferent from the 264/272 setup. If you are going to swap out the cams, go all the way. The guys I know that have the 264/272's love my 272/272's and wish they had gone that route in the beginning. Just my $.02
