idle fluctuation w/ cams

This is mainly directed at you Stage 1+ guys running HKS 264I/272E cams but anyone w/ upgraded cams feel free to chime in. My idle is usually steady at about 900 rpm but sometimes it will rev up to around 1300 rpm and then settle back down to 900. I have a bit of lumpyness in my idle which I don't mind but this is different. It happens fairly often so I'm wondering if it is normal for having cams. Shiv has already applied his idle fix via Xflash but it didn't seem to help this issue. Is there any way to get rid of this fluctuation like tuning the fuel or timing at idle? Silver Surfer has posted that he does not have this fluctuation even w/ his more aggressive 272/272 cams but then again he is running a standalone ECU.

I have Buschur Stage 4 with 264/272 cams. I also have the flash and SAFCII. My idle is lumpy too. It is also around 900rpm but have seen it go from 730 - 1300. When it drops in the low 700's it feels like it is going to die right there. It has never died, just feels like it will.

It was my understanding that the lumpy idle is normal. I have had this setup for less than a week, but am gettign used to the idle already.

If there is something to help smooth it out besides the standalone ECU, which can run upwards of $2500, I would love to know. However most of my friends love the lumpyness, makes it feel like a rocketchip waiting to take off...

XMAP v.3 will allow fueling changes during closed loop fuel control conditions. That is, it will modify the factory o2 sensor signal to make the ECU "zero in" on a richer a/f ratio during idle which is what cam'd cars need for maximum idle stability.

Shiv,

Is this something that XEDE is capable of doing but Xflash is not?

Yes, that is correct. At least for the time being.

damn had I known about this and about XEDE's better timing control I would have gone with XEDE+flash instead of just Xflash.
