Cam gears
Cam gears, unlike exhausts, serve the same purpose regardless of the design. The only difference between two different company offerings would be the quality right?
I found some excellent prices on Fidanza cam gears, +/-12 adjustment on either side. Am I correct in assuming these will work fine with the XFlash Stage1?
Also, anybody have any experiences with Fidanza products? Good/bad? What about quality? They are also 5 bolt like the Vishnu gears, which were my first choice. But the price I found on these are awesome and I want to jump on it.

IMO if you're going to be adjusting them once they're on Fidanza gears would be the worst choice, because it uses a nut and bolt to fasten the gear down. It is unlike all of the other choices available in which the bolt threads into the gear itself to lock down. With the Fidanza gears it will be more troublesome and difficult to adjust once they're on. Too many additional nuts and bolts on means more trouble should one come loose. The valvecover would most likely have to come off among other inconveniences like having to turn the crank over to reach the other nuts and bolts on the gears, whereas with the other gears available only the plastic gear cover comes off and the adjustment can by made to the gear by loosening the bolt with only an allen wrench without having to remove the valvecover or turn the crank over.

I guess the question is, how's the quality on the Fidanza gears? Good/bad/acceptable? I've heard they make some pretty light flywheels, but aside from that I don't know... maybe I'll just stick with the Vishnu gears.
Quality wise... I think they're fine. Personally the only thing I don't like is having nuts and bolts, because though not likely.... it's more parts to get lost or loose. Look at all of the higher reputable gears out there, none use nuts and bolts. Too risky IMO. They also saved time and money not having to thread the holes for bolts and simply supply nuts to fasten it. The good thing about the Fidanzas are they're indexed for the EVO and older 4G63, take note of the 2 small holes around the hole for the camshaft. One is for the Evo and the other for older 4G63's.

I don't think it is cool to pimp Fidanza's on the Vishnu forum since Vishnu sells cam gears too. Plus, the nut and bolt design is no good. Just more parts to rattle loose and fall down into your lower pulley.
I have Fidanza gears. They make good products and have been around for a long time but after seeing the Vishnu gears I would choose Vishnu over Fidanza. Its not because of the quality but because of the design. On the Fidanza gears the locking nuts stick out more. This becomes more of a problem if you want to keep the cam gear cover on. You CAN adjust the Fidanza gears w/o turning the crank or removing the valve cover. It just takes the right type of wrench BUT the problem is that since you are using a wrench instead of an allen key you can over torque the nuts if you're not careful. They are rated at less than 4 foot pounds so you get the picture.

Those are the Fidanza gears. n00dle, I assume you mean those two holes are used to differentiate the different 4G63's? Judging from the pic of Vishnu's gears, it looks like the top hole is used for the Evo, and the left one would be used for older 4G63's.. I think.
Also, as for TDC, would I be able to line up the Fidanza gears exactly like the Visnhu ones as shown in this picture?

I'm not trying to say the Fidanza's are any better, but I'm trying to learn about them. I have heard one thing but then you guys are telling me another, so I'm just trying to figure out. I don't mean to push this product as superior or that people should buy it. Just trying to do some research..
Yeah, those two small holes. From the pic it looks like the left hole with the EVO label next to it would be for the Evo.
I'm not trying to pimp other parts here, just trying to clear up some confusion. FWIW, I got HKS gears after looking at all of the options. I think I ended up paying more than the other options, but it was a straight swap and the big deciding factor for me was they were correctly indexed for the Evo and no mods had to be made to accomodate them. I didn't buy into the 3 bolt weakness argument with HKS gears, so that part wasn't an issue for me. My intent was to get the Vishnu gears, but 2 things drew me away. Hopefully if the following reasons make any sense to Shiv he may make some minor changes in future productions. One was there was grinding, which at the time I didn't know how much but it was a turn off. Two was there have been numerous members that have installed them with the timing off. The problem IMO is the red dot, which some didn't have on their gears which lead to more confusion and mishaps. All this means more work for the end users in having to go back fix. These 2 issues can be fixed easily by Shiv having the machinist sink the adjustment wheel a bit deeper so it's flush with the outside gear and not rub the plastic cover, and relocate the "0" marks on the gears to where the red dot currently is or re-index the small holes for the cams and leave the marks where they are. This would be like the HKS gears and eliminate some of the confusion people have when timing their Vishnu gears. Anyhow just a little constructive criticism, these are my thoughts and my reasons and I'm a fan of Vishnu too.

well maybe its a vishnu design manufactured by fidanza. until vishnu had the resources to manufacture their own. i really can't remember. ask shiv. i could be wrong. the hole on the left is for the evo since they need to be 7.5* to the left of the 0*/tdc marks. this could get confusing again.
