K&N panel filter or not?
K&N panel filter or not?
I'm not sure if this has been answered yet, but I know that Shiv doesn't like the cone style filters. I seem to remember some talk of oil from the filter getting on the MAF sensor and screwing up the reading it generates... Any truth to this?

If you over oil the K&N it will seep into the inner parts of the filter and get into you MAF. If you install one I would wipe it down with a towel to make sure you pick up any excess oil on the filter.
The K&N filter comes pre-oiled and from my experience with both drop in and cone filters, I have not seen any problems with the MAF sensor. I do have a co-worker of mine who bought a Corvette who had to replace his MAF sensor due to oil getting on it from the K&N. It's hard to say if the previous owner cleaned the filter and possibly over oiled it before he sold the vehicle.
As for me, I am stilling running my stock filter and will not change it to something else until Shiv gives his golden seal of approval for an aftermarket one to run on my Evo.

Our style MAFs in the Evo should not be a problem unless over oiled. I had a "hot wire" style MAF in my Nissan and it was very sensitive to filter oil and blew my MAF. I have had my K&N drop in for 7 months without any problem. You can see little specs of oil in the box when you remove the filter to look. No big deal.
