Stage one only trapping @ 105mph...

Well for Shiggles and Gits I took my car to Carolina Dragway. I never drag race and my 60' will testify to that. Weather was pretty bad 93 Degrees and close to 100% relative humidity with storms on the horizon. Everyone was sweating like crazy. Elev. is 350 ASL. I may be a lousy drag racer but at least I'm a consistently bad drag racer...made 5 runs, almost all were identical, but I was only trapping at 105mph every time. Shifted at 7700rpm and held 4th every run. Car had half a tank of 93 (did not run a race gas map) and even my golf clubs in the trunk (Happy Gilmore style, not exactly a full set). Before anyone tells me my cam gears are off a tooth I put 256 hp to the wheels on 93 octane at the SE dyno day on my custom tune (same as the other Stage 1's were laying down). Dyno chart here http://www.dyno4mance.com/tuning/you..._Pages/102.php What gives??? My timeslips...

RT_______ .622__________.639
60_______2.065_________2.050
330______5.750_________5.722
1/8 ET____8.753_________8.741
1/8 MPH__ 83.96_________83.68
1/4 ET____13.573________13.539
1/4 MPH__ 103.48________105.34

FWIW I won every race, mainly against modded 5.0 rustangs and a 1G eclipse turbo. Since this damn track doesn't show ET's on grudge night I have no idea if everyone else was running slow too. I figure if I ever learn how to launch that would put me right at about 13 flat...but how are you west coast guys running such good ET's and MPH traps on your 91 craptane? Any experienced drag racers wanna tell me where my extra 5mph lie??? I'm thinking temp and humidity had a little to do with it, but don't know if that alone could count for about 5mph difference in trap speed at the end of the quarter.

Dude,
You are making several rookie mistakes:

First, empty your car out and take out the spare and jack and make sure you are low on gas (your gas light should be about to come on). That include all the crap in your console and glove box.

Two: Shift earlier. Shift at 7200 instead of 7700.

Three: Load a race gas map. Do you think us westcoasters use that 91 octane **** for drag racing? No way. Get the GOOD stuff and load the 100 octane map and go like hell.

Four: Your 60ft times are horrible. Rev to 5500 or 6000 and drop that bitc*. Your traps will drop to 1.80 or better, which would have given you 0 13.0 or even a 12.90 just from that alone.

Do all four things and you will run 12.5 to 12.7/109 to 110 garanteed.

Wow, you guys take this shiat seriously, I wast just curious to see what she'd do "as is"...ie, how I drive it everyday. Like I said, I prefer the twisties to straight lines. I'm not sure how many drop clutch launches my stock clutch will handle at 6 grand although it is a mofro trying to modulate that sucker with that darn restrictor trying to make things linear.

I was kinda hoping to have a little competition, no other AWD out there and I kinda fell in on the high end of the street cars but way below the race cars. About the only good match-up would have been some of the LS1 powered cars out there as I was walking the available 5.0 mustangs (no newer 4.6's or cobras there). The civics and integras were all in the 15's with the exception of a race prepped CRX that beat a Z06 vette. No Supras anywhere, but a buttload of turbo pickup trucks. Big difference coming from Orlando to here.

Maybe next time I'll lighten the car and try a race gas map but I'm happy with the driveability of the car and the area under the curve, not so much worried about ET's. Just curious about my trap speeds as that is normally more indicative of HP than driver skill, even with my crappy 60' times. Vishnu claims better than a 110mph trap speed for stage 1 cars...I guess that's on a race map.

You definitly need some pratice. Your HP sounds about right for a stage 1, but your times and MPH are off. I was running 13.2 at 101 stock. I would say the humidity was hurting you more than anything.

Take smogrunners advice and clean all the extra junk outta your car, weight is your worst enemy.

I didn't mean to sound like a crazy man when I said to rev up the clutch and drop it. It is an act of faith, but what you have to do is rev it and drop it in order to get the the tires spinning: that will save your driveline.

Yes, you have to run Vishnu's 100 octane race gas map to get times like they advertise on their website. I did 111mph on a race gas map for the stage one (actually 110.97).

Definetely don't forget to shift earlier as well.

Pump map and racemap are like night and day. Especially on the ****t@ Cali gas.
On my pumpmap (91) I ran 109 mph and on the racemap (c16) 114mph.

My .02 cents

Agree with Smog and the rest go on a diet. My first couple times out I did not take all the nick nacks out but after watching Smogs approach and his superior times I take out about everything possible. That is the day I ran 12.2s. And out here race gas is a must on our cars. 91 **** h20 sucks. With a good launch and a diet you 93 map should still be good for high 12s.

dude, just to let you know, I have run there my self. My best time nearly stock was 14.3 @ 97.5mph. seems like its a "slow" track, heh. The night I was there I beat a SS Camaro and a lightly modded GT Mustang. The SS Camaro even he said that the track felt slow that night.

Also the good ol heat and humidity will kill your hp the intercooler sprayer will help some but just to damn hot to run faster.
Will you be at the Atl dragway on the 19 for the inport show down.

I do think you should be trapping higher, even with those bad 60' times, but the track conditions are the main problem in this case. Heat and especially humidity kill times. Were the other people racing complaining about the track being slow that day? I'd bet they were. Also, there is no way your cam gears are off a tooth, so put that out of your mind; your dyno numbers looked great compared to all the other Stage 1s, especially for a catted car. Wait till the fall and give it another go. Good luck, man!

FWIW, the one time I went drag racing, my *1/8th* mile trap speeds went up by 4mph just be dropping my 60' times from 2.2 ato 2.0s. Of course, this is on the red shop car but nonetheless

Todd, doubt I'll make it to ATL on the 19th...Have shoulder surgery on the 22nd and lots of stuff to take care of before then, who knows though, might change my mind at the last minute.

Event horizon, that track did seem really, really slow but since they weren't showing ET's and MPH on the lights I have no idea how other cars were running other than the guys I beat and some of the civic owners I was talking to in the staging lanes. I did 5 runs pretty much back to back before the crowd got there and left early to eat and avoid the rain - think I might run at another track and see how it compares, maybe silver dollar raceway as that is real close to the in-laws house (what a great excuse to get away!).

In the mean time I need to find some local autocross events to go to before being sent to Korea for a year and my car sits in storage accumulating dust. Last time I deployed I put my WRX in storage, came back and the EVO was here so I traded it in the day after getting it out of storage. Wonder what might be out to tempt me this time round when I return from Korea... At least I'll be a civilian in a year, everyone keep their eye out for any lucrative job postings as I'll be in the hunt in a couple months.
