It is unlikely that running the race gas map on pump gas will cause immediate engine failure. Now try that on a stand-alone I mean... don't.

However, as alex alex pointed out, our car will run poorly with audible detonation (the knock sensor can only react so quickly) here and there. Soon, it will fall back on the high det fuel and spark timing maps which will help matters. However, this is just based upon some informal testing (ie. screw-ups) that I have done on my own car. I don't recommend making this mistake!!

Why not just use a key switch? That's what I plan on using ... that way unless you got the key, there's no way to switch maps. Some examples can be found within this doc: http://www.action-electronics.com/pdf/gcswsec.pdf
