The Cam Timing Challenge
I have an appointment next Wednesday with Tuner Transformation star Shiv Vishnu and would like to hear some peoples theories on cam timing. I will probably only have enough time to do 4-5 changes. Right now, I am at -3,-3 so that will be my baseline. I will probably do 0,0 as one of my data points. My goal is to improve my torque curve, even at the expense of peak horsepower. This should be a neat experiment.

yeah. there are like two huge threads on this. i think one by ted b and one by quicksilver. it basically boils down to what you'd like:
for 264s, 272s, or combos: more torque, flatter power curves, lumpy idle = -2,-2 less torque, higher peak horsepower, smoother idle = -4,-1 |

Now, you have straight 270's, so check with TedB, but on my staggered combo, Ted's recipe of +2i/0e, transformed my car, which had originally been set at -3/-3, into a super torquey, much faster-spooling beastie.
I am not even curious about experimenting with other possible settings. TedB is The Man. Now, m y car hits peak boost(19.5#) by 3100 rpm in 5th, when mashed from 2500 rpm. You have the bigger turbo, so I would imagine that you wanna improve spoolup and low end grunt. Well, the advanced settings are where it's at. As a side benefit, with +2/0, you get that really spooky, spilunking idle, with which to ward off innocent pilgrims. |

I've tried a few different combos myself but was unable to try:
+1/-1 +2/0 I am running -2/-2 which provided me with the best overall curve and about 1k sooner peak torque than 0/0. |
I am going to add +1/-1 to my list.
So here is my perliminary list: +1/-1 +2/+2 +2/-1 -1/+1 0/0 -3/-3 |

I've always wanted to try something more aggressive on the intake side like +3/-2 or +3/-1 |
