Does M3 methanol damage seals on SMC kits?

I was told that the M3 meth damages the seals on SMC kits faster than M1? Is this true?

I bought a new meth kit and it didn't work when I got it. There wasn't enough pressure. Well I sent it to SMC and got it back and it worked fine. About 2 months later it still works, but I find myself going through meth really fast. I notice my trunk smells and the carpet is wet. I was leaking meth! It was spraying out of every possible location it could on the pump. I am using M3 and have been since I got tuned. Should I switch to M1?

run it with water, ethanol....it will still happen on the smc flojet pump

this is a rv, hot dog cart pump...not a pump for critical applications like high pressure methanol injection on a car!

That is strange that it would leak like crazy. And if it is you are probably going to run lean as poop becuase you are certainly not running the proper volume needed to keep up with your tune.

Did you call SMC and ask them? I hope they once again replace your unit.

Yes, I emailed Steve and he said it will be fixed at no cost to me except for shipping to him. He also said the lubricants in M3 damages seals. I am going to switch to 75% M1 and 25% water and get retuned. Hopefully this will allow the pump to last longer.

I have no problems running M3 through shurflo based pumps. You may want to reconsider the flojet garbage.

I used that pump on an AWIC system I had in another car.

I didn't know there was so much dislike for SMC and their pumps. I remember when Al first started promoting these kits and everyone was all over them. I guess times change.

the flojet pumps used in the smc systems are put under tremendous stress, working at pressures in excess of ~3X they are designed for......under stress things break....
