ATTN: Richard L please help asap!!!

ok so here is what happened. i got my HFS-1 installed and had some problems when i got home from the 2.5 hour drive home.

first problem was, the low level sender unit was over tightened and it resulted in a broken rubber expandable gasket that makes the seal. so i was send a new one at no cost and replaced it myself . i made sure i did not over tighten it and its not leaking now.

second problem arose when i took it for a spin, got on the boost and noticed that the pressure side of the pump was spraying out meth like a hose. so i called up the shop that installed it once more and i was told to use some Teflon tape on the threads. so i proceeded to, and actually used the yellow chemical safe Teflon tape. what it did was, it stop the meth from spraying out like a hose to, spraying out less violently. but it was still spraying from the threads. so we made sure it was tight and still spraying out. and we also made sure that its not spraying from the hose or hose connections, ITS DEFENITLY SPRAYING FROM THE THREADS. we almost exhausted our options from sealing it, tightening it and it still proceeded to spray. one thing we didnt try was a liquid sealant compound.

at this point i am asking u and all of evo m to help me trouble shoot this so i can fix it and not have to worry about anything. im not sure if i got a bad pump, bad seal within the threads or if it was installed wrong.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!

Use "loctite 648" (its green)

Most places on carry only permatex brand and not loctite. You may need to order it from mcmaster.com to get it fastest unless someone carries loctite in your area. Id call around before wasting your time driving around.

The teflon tape is useless when it comes to meth. General "liquid sealant compounds" are solvent based, the meth will eat through them. I would only use loctite 648.

Problem solved

Is it leaking where the fitting screws into the plastic pumphead threads? If so, it's possible that it was either undertightened so that the o-ring wasn't sufficiently seated (a problem I had at first), or overtightened, or cross-threaded so that the threads are damaged and are preventing a good seal.

I would get the meth out of it and test/troubleshoot it with water until you fix the leak.

You should be able to still get it free when its loctite'd. The loctite only seals really small gaps anyway, so it shouldn't be too hard to break free.

Boltz,

The fitting should work without the loctite or ptfe tapes.

When you are are screwing the fitting into the pump head, ensure the o-ring is fully embedded into the seat of the pump head. Put a very small amount of grease if needed, but try to do it without.

We have taken a great deal of care on machining the o-ring grove to match the recesses on pump head.

no the o-ring was compressed against both machined surfaces and it was spraying out like a hose. it was bad. then i put some teflon tape on the threads, thightened it fully once more, took it for a spin and it wasnt as bad but it was still spraying all over my trunk. at this point im thinking its either the person who installed the pump cross threaded it or something is wrong with the pump.

its hard to not get pissed when u pay a boat load of money, think everything is ok, drive 3 hours home and have to re-do some of the installation that u paid for. the shop that installed it has been nothing but nice and helpfull but they can only do so much being 3 hours from me.

so at this point i have no other option but to fix it myself.

so my next step is to take the pump out completly and check all threads. i do however have a feeling that they are cross threaded. ad if thats the case, im going to send it back to the shop and have them send me a new pump and fittings from aquamist.

richard, what do u sugest i do?

Take the pump out ASAP. Check the threads and if the thread is crossed, You just need a new upper pump housing.

Send me some photos. It might be OK with a new o-ring.

i think the car is going back to the shop it was installed at. they are a aquamist dealer and will fix it. they dont have any pumps in stock is my problem. if i need a new pump or lower half of the pump and new fittings, is that covered under any warrantee?

It should, But I did have the same problem which was EASILY remedied by using the 648.

Please don't use loctite 648 on plastic and metal. The 648 is for the jet adaptor, metal to metal only.

ok well i took the pump out last night and boy did it tell the story right away. i was 100% right with saying someone over tightened the **** out of it and ripped the threads right off there like nothing. here are some not so clear pics of the pump and the fitting. sorry that they are no so clear but i tried.

in this pic u can see the plastic threads actually around the metal fitting.

this is another pic of the ripped plastic threads on the metal fitting

the pump

its hard to see but there are no threads left in the pump at all.

and lastly another pump pic

now i am sending it over night to the shop that installed it and they say they are going to get me a new one with new fittings.

richard if u will, pm me and i will tell u who installed it and maybe u can help me out and get in contact with them. thanks
